Cadet Johnson is called to the meeting and he arrives. MCapt Velorie starts the conference meeting. The Captain discusses establishing kill zones and choke points around the base. Locations that the marines may funnel the enemy into to more easily control and take the enemy out. Velorie then tells his officers where he wants his different platoons stationed with command in operations. Sergeant Redding feels that may not be appropriate since operations in one of the first places the enemy will hit. Velorie notes his objection but feels they can adequately defend the location. 1Lt Prescott is ordered to draw up the operational orders immediately. 38 Kendar's battleship docked at the Krivaldi base and Kendar embarked noting the efficiency of the Krivaldi and then he wondered about his guards they were his protection but he felt they were there also to insure his loyalty. Kendar entered the founder's location and reported in. He told the founder that he had negotiated the surrender of the federation forces but the commanding officer refused. He had also offered unmolested free passage back to federation space. But the federation forces appeared to be going to protect sb 369 at all costs. The founder nodded saying the federation can be very stubborn and asked if the preparations for taking the base were ready. Kendar said yes and presently a special Jem Hadar unit would board the base expecting 40% federation losses. The dominion and Krivaldi ships would at the same time attack the base's exterior. The founder ordered Kendar to proceed. 39 Commodore Thompson was the last as he always wanted to be leaving the ship. He changed into his Captain's uniform rather than the Commodore's uniform feeling it more appropriate for the situation. He remembered the days on the Nightshade as XO when his CO was captured by Naussicans. They had to rescue him and some torpedo casings. Thompson came back to the present and grabbed his phaser rifle and checked with commander Steele now in the CO's chair. Thompson then beamed over to SB 369. Lt Chadwald transferred command to Como Thompson following usual ceremony protocol. Thompson also noted that MCapt Velorie was there on the bridge making full preparations. 41 and 40 Como Thompson took LtCmdr Jenkins to the holodeck and she came in a red dress and Jason in a black suit. They danced into the night enjoying each other in a 30s night club. Then suddenly there was a gun shot and a man was seriously wounded and the lights went out. The lights came back on and the police arrived and in the mean time Amanda tried to help the man but he died anyway. The police asked Thompson if he had seen anything. Thompson said no but Amanda had seen the shooting briefly and was asked to go to the station house. On their second holo excursion Como Thompson came to see Amanda at her quarters. The holodeck trip had been tabled due to transfer to sb 369. They sat down together and talked. Thompson didn't want Amanda to get hurt so he asked her to stay on Vindicator. He didn't want to worry and he felt that their would be to much fighting on sb 369. Amanda agreed as long as Jason was staying to but she found he was going and decided to go to SB 369 also. They discussed it and Jason finally agreed. 42 LtCmdr Kryton-Vance was called down to sick bay by Cmdr Dex and he arrived and reported in to Dex. Dex told James that he was no longer the Chief Science Officer but had been upgraded to XO from 2XO. Dex said sorry about the loss of lab time but he was no longer able to do the job. James understood the situation and agreed to do the best he could but James asked if they were sure? James said he was up on Vindi better than most but he had no experience with marines. Dex said he had the same thoughts when he was made XO. But the CO picked James and Dex new James could do it. James agreed and said he would sort of have to bone up on that end of the game. Cmdr Dex offered James some advice. Listen to the Yeoman and department heads mull it over with the available data and your gut instinct and don't second guess yourself. James understood excepting the situation and told Dex he would have to tell Erin since she would have more load to carry now. James told Dex Kyle was doing well and would be needing more toys shortly and yes get some in Erin's hair. 43 Cmdr Dex was sort of stuck recovering from his wounds in sick bay and had got some of the engineers to bring up pads making the nurses think he was needed elsewhere. However, It was not working to Dex's satisfaction and Dex decided to contact the CEO and ask her for a job as an assistant engineer. Because of the restrictions as an XO Dex now felt he had just got out of jail and if he could get the job he would be able to play with his engines again. Dex sent Akida a message. Lt Jackson received and decided she could certainly use Dex for some stuff she had in mind. Akida replied accepting Dex as an assistant engineer. Cmdr Dex was elated and left sickbay for his quarters. Dex got into his old engineering uniform with his utility belts and boots. Presently he was unable to get his coco because of sickbay restrictions but Dex headed for Engineering and meet Akida. She was glade to see him and assigned him work on SB 369. Dex excepted the assignment. 44 James had beamed over to Sb369 and was finishing the wave guide assembly installion on a steer able cassigrainian dish with two other engineers with a third engineer on the communications array. James finished the install and checked with the engineer in charge of the array finding he was done. James wait for the other two engineers to finish the control mods on the dish and that being done they went back into the star base. James quickly went to engineering to check on the EMP weapon sub assembly and the communications hardware sub assembly. Everything went as planned CWO Smitty finished the communications gear and aligning it out with Akida on Vindicator. James and Smitty returned to the EMP weapon pad in main engineering and found Jones had completed the basic installation. Jones was sent back to the Vindicator and Smitty was left in charge of weapon monitoring. James and Smitty ran an alignment test with Tactical. The test gave very satisfactory results and the weapon was turned over to tactical. Upon request James then headed for the bridge leaving Smitty to monitor the weapon. 45 Lt (JG) Vokar had completed repairs on major systems and weapons and had returned to the Vindicator to say good by to his sister T'Asir. Vokar returned to the star base and was checking the tactical scan on the incoming dominion forces as the Vindicator flashed into warp heading back to SB 22. Vokar had the computer check some timing results on the incoming enemy. The computer told him that the enemy would arrive in 1 hour and 23 minutes. Vokar asked the computer to estimate maximum arrival time of reinforcements from sb 22 at maximum warp. Including Vindi's round trip the computer said 4 hours. Vokar contacted Como Thompson and told him the star base has to hold the dominion off for at least 2 and one half hours. 46 2Lt Tatlock went into the Commodores lounge to tell the commodore that the two shuttles were ready with the hologenerators and signature generators. They pretty much could emulate any ship in the fleet with this system. As well the shuttles were loaded with armed marines to place charges on Dominion and Krivaldi ships. The entire squadron had as well been transferred to SB 369. Tatlock wait in the lounge for Como Thompson to return. 47 1Lt Prescott reached the fighter deck and was shown the way to the squadron commanders office 2Lt Tatlock. Lt Prescott greeted Lt Tatlock and they sat down to a meeting. Tatlock told Prescott that he had some ideas about the strategy on the incoming Krivaldi/ Dominion assault. Tatlock suggested the use of gas type weapons such as biochemical or genetic weapons. Lt Prescott noted it but informed Lt Tatlock that such weapons were outlawed by the Geneva convention and he personally did not favor there use. Then Tatlock discussed the use of the holoprojectors and signature generators on the shuttles. Prescott felt that that was a good idea and it should be checked out. Prescott told Tatlock that he should check with CEO Lt Akida Rose Jackson and CSCI Lt Erin Kryton-Vance for deployment of these devices . Prescott was sure they could get the job done. Prescott asked if Tatlock would check with these department heads on some drones the last squadron leader had wanted and see if anything was done. As for the fighter pilots and flight deck personal Prescott figured for the time being a refresher course was in order but that it would have to be done on SB 369 and then latter a more permanent set up could be done once the crew was back on the Vindicator. Tatlock under the circumstances agreed. 48 The Marines beam over to sb 369 under MCapt Velorie, 1Lt Prescott, 2nd LT Pearson, and the andorian sergeant. Prescott tells the sergeant he really is getting bad vibes over this situation. At first the sergeant feels Prescott is nervous. Then lieutenant Pearson has trouble with the schematics of the base seeing that on only eleven decks out of eighty two the marines will be pulling security. On the rest of the decks they will be minimal and involved in chock points. Pearson feels even at this they will be spread thin. MCapt Velori is not impressed and orders them to straighten up. Then MCapt Velori tells the men that they must hold there positions or die. He basically issues Spartan tactics: no surrender, no retreat, victory or death. Pearson tell Velorie that won't work we need flexibility since the Krivaldi do not board by location but several at once and never the same place repeatedly. Velori tells Pearson enough you have your orders. Prescott and his men move out still feeling something's is not right and now his sergeant agrees with him. 49 LtCmdr Kryton-Vance heads down to see the marines on deck 34 primarily to see and meet with them since he feels a little week in that area. He arrives and is greeted by and NCO whom gets MCapt Velorie. MCapt Velorie greets LtCmdr Vance and James explains why he is here as XO. Velorie understands and gives James a short tour of the facility starting with the XO's office. They enter and 1Lt Prescott recognizes James and greets him. James notes some frostiness between the Marine Captain and his Lieutenant and tries to smooth it over by telling them he is honored to meet both of them and he wants both to be free to see him if they need something. Mcapt Velorie suggests they go on with the tour. James follows him. 50 LtCmdr Kryton-Vance look over the marine deck on level 34 and James notes the efficiency of the marines they appear quite good. James then discusses the option of transport inhibitors being placed on SB 369 to prevent boarding. Velorie tells him they will be carried by the marines and set up specifically around engineering, sickbay, and the computer core and of course where the EMP weapon is placed. Velorie also tells James they will be used to force the enemy into choke points where photon anti-personal grenades will be used. This will make the enemy pay for every square centimeter they try to take in blood. However in case the base is over run in the end the weapon will be kept from falling into enemy hands since the base will be destroyed and the enemy will get nothing. The marines will set charges for this purpose and they will be detonated at the required time. LtCmdr Kryton-Vance thanks MCapt Velorie and heads for the Science department. 51 Lt Dal Dudas was in a dream where he was on the deck of the USS Resolution in Taruhai space. He was talking with the CO Captain Calenzie. The CO had saved his engineer friend Dal but had left Harper, Dal's friend behind. Dal was belligerent wanting a party to go back and pick up Harper. But the Captain said it was to dangerous at this time and they had to leave. The captain asked Dal to go to engineering or his quarters. Dal refused and they got into an argument. The Captain finally ordered Dal to leave and Dal finally complied. Dal went to engineering. A girl friend sweet on him stopped by, an ensign Fry. Dal told her that Harper had been left behind. Dal woke up in the sick bay of the Vindicator and decided to head back to engineering to see what was going on. 52 Lt Jackson had four engineering teams to send over to the star base two of which had already gone over with Cmdr Dex. Lt Dudas was taking one team over and she the other. Akida sent a note to Dal telling him to go over when he was ready. Akida had made ready with her tool belt and a newly replicated phaser and belt on her hip. Her brothers had taught her a few things about fighting and she was ready if it became necessary. Akida had left a skeleton team to maintain engineering on Vindicator and her nanite problem had been resolved. Akida was ready and she beamed over to SB 369. 53 ** Dr. Hutcherson signs out his last set of patients at Sickbay's ICU. Dr. Hailey Ryder will be pulling a double workload in order to cover for various medical personnel transferred to SB369, including Hutcherson. Taking her new patient charts, she reminds the CMO to be careful, considering the size of the incoming enemy fleet. 54 Cdt Johnson had deployed his men. The first platoon was deployed on decks A through D. Johnson had them use desks at the choke points to hide behind for cover rather than the men sitting in the open. Once set up he contacted the CO MCapt Velorie. Velorie chewed Johnson out for being slow but Johnson thought it could have been worse. Now it was a waiting game which was making Cdt Johnson a little nervous so he followed suit with his gunny sergeant and started talking to his men checking on them. 55 ** SFMC Company XO greets Dr. Hutcherson into his new office. The CMO informs Prescott of his fireteam's last mission, one that was apparently not confirmed by any senior officer. Hutcherson suggests that 'someone is up to something'. Prescott says he had already informed Marines Criminal Investigations of the tamperings. 56 ** Dr. Hutcherson hands over a pad to Prescott, detailing his fireteam's new set of orders on SB36. Prescott confirms that these orders were indeed signed off by him, and are official. The Company XO states he will be on the station after getting some work done. Leaving the office, Hutcherson worries about the 'Vindicator saboteur'. 57 LtCmdr Kryton-Vance checked in with Chief warrant Officer Jones and found that the EMP weapon components had been replicated and sent to engineering as well as the components for an auxiliary communications system. James was happy that had been done and briefly discussed with Jones distance advantages of such a system. James contacted Lt(JG) Vokar two check to see if he needed and escort to sb 369 being XO. Vokar said no being a federation facility. James then called Lt Jackson and Cmdr Dex to confer with them about the EMP weapon and the communications gear. Akida answered and they decided to meet in her engineering office. Vokar contacted Akida to find out when prepare teams would be available for tactical. Akida replied that would be shortly as soon as she could get one over there. James acknowledged Akida and headed for engineering. 58 James meet Akida in engineering and hey discussed the nanite problem first. Erin's work had shown a specific wave length for circuit lengths of 1 to 4 microns. EMF in this range would quickly fry the nanites from heat up. However, it was dangerous to organics such as the gel packs. James suggested that that Akida check the gel packs for any trace of nannites and where there were none shield the packs and apply the emf field from the sensor bundle. Akida felt that would work for her. James then showed Akida the make shift radio room and the new equipment. She felt that would help at least keeping in touch with the Vindicator while going back to SB 22. They returned to Akida's office to find Cmdr Dex there. Dex told them on the EMP weapon he will have to check Smitties power source since a lot will need to be channeled. But because of the reactors and base requirements were small the available power was sufficient for the weapon. James told Dex initial set was being done but Dex needed to check the set up and make what changes he felt were necessary. Cmdr Dex and Akida mulled the system over and James returned to sb 369 to check the set up progress. 59 James finally got home and quietly entered his quarters seeing his wife Erin feeding Kyle. The sight pulled on his hart and made him long to stay with Erin. But He had to go so he quietly got his bag ready with some weapons stored. James put the bag by the atrium but Erin found him. She knew all to well how he was feeling and made James take a shower and headed James off to bed. Erin put James into a deep sleep and linked with his mind teaching James some defense tactics she had know as a Sebastian soldier. Erin was worried. She had every confidence in James's ability as a science officer but as a soldier she wanted to make sure he new how. That she new and she could help him with it while he slept. Morning came and James left for sb 369 feeling somehow different. 60 2Lt Tatlock had his fighters ready with two fighters always on patrol the rest of the pilots on a 2 minute rotation for an emergency scramble. Tatlock kept feeling something was not right but neither he or his sergeant could put a finger on it. Tatlock also had at least one shuttle out on rotation doing its thing.
