Cmdr. Amanda Jenkins wakes up again at the ICU, this time to see Dr. Hutcherson. She is still recovering from surgery on her head, and suddenly realizes she can't move her legs. Hutcherson initially assumes it to be the anesthesia, but calls for an immediate neurology consult. 58 Cadet Andrew Tatlock seemed to feel that everyone was discussing the coming war and that everything was a maybe but he decided to go to the mess hall eat and find some squadron members. He ate and had several nice bacon sandwiches and afterwards checked back with the squadron. He had not been assigned yet and so in the mean time he was going to get his gun issued from the lieutenant and see if he could serve to fly marines to their destination. 59 Ens Vokar stopped by sick bay to see LtCmdr Jenkins feeling down deep that he was partly responsible for her being hurt. If only he could have reached her faster. The Nurse showed Vokar to Amanda and he asked her how she was standing at attention. He told her she might not be in this situation if he could have responded faster. But Jenkins told Vokar no ill feeling that some one like O'Neil would have found her anyway with his connections. Vokar then informed Amanda that O'Neil was in the brig on SB 22 and would no long be able to hurt her and that his connections were gone. Vokar also told Amanda that Thompson had feeling for her. Amanda said she new and Vokar asked if there was anything he could do. She couldn't think of anything at this time. Vokar told her he had to go and attend to other things and she thanked him for coming. 60 Lt Jackson was asleep and she instinctively felt the warp engines stop. It woke her and she then heard Lt West in her COMM. She picked up her jacket and headed for engineering. Akida found out from West the warp core had shut down for now reason an there was no power disruption or any apparent cause. She checked the system and the core started again by itself. Akida also found a time discrepancy in the sensor data. Lt Jackson contacted Como Thompson and told him about the situation. Thompson wanted to know if he could continue on or should turn back to SB 22. He didn't like that idea much but did not want to enter space where the Krivaldi had attacked with the engines in that condition. Akida felt they should go on since she needed to run a diagnostic while in warp. Thompson understood. Akida sent the sensor and diagnostic data to science for some help and headed there. 61 Lt Jackson hurried to the science department with Lt West watching the diagnostic. At the same LtCmdr Kryton-Vance was analyzing a data stream sent to him by Ens Vokar in regard to found nanoprobes in the Ens Jax case. James had filtered the data steams and found a broadband residue with a distinct period of 6 milliseconds. The last filter gave an identifiable digital signal but was found to be scrambled. It was a Vulcan Kolinar code and know to be very difficult to break down. Lt Jackson had arrived and James talked to her and was subsequently informed by WO Jones that the same time based signal was in Akida's data from the warp core. James discussed that and the ramifications of it if the two data types were found to be identical. Akida was quite upset since it meant somebody may have sabotaged her engines with nanoprobes. 62 LtCmdr Kryton-Vance and Lt Jackson were discussing the problem when WO Jones came up and informed them that the signals were indeed identical and that there was a nanoprobe problem in the warp core some where. Akida was furious and LtCmdr Kryton-Vance called Ens Vokar and asked for his help hoping that maybe T'Asir would be able to find a primer to the code so that they could determine how to detect all the nanites and what the programming protocols were. Ens Vokar arrived and felt he had a way to stop the nanites once they had deciphered the programming. 63 LtCmdr Kryton-Vance pointed out to Ens Vokar that the information they had now may be of some help. They should definitely be looking for a Vulcan with experience with Kolinar code use. Ens Vokar agreed that the base had been narrowed some and contacted security to come to the lab. He had a definite list of Vulcans on board ship he wanted now to interview. Akida called engineering to erect force shield around engineering and the core to prevent further contamination. Vokar felt that this problem may have spread by now to more than just the warp core. T'Asir was working furiously to crack the code but found it quite difficult. She worked as fast as possible since she hoped that they would find a distinct frequency that would be able to neutralize the nanites. In the mean time LtCmdr Kryton-Vance ordered WO Jones to transmit a broad band jamming signal in the engineering area to block communications with the nanites. 64 T'Asir worked furiously on the code encryption and had broken through several layers with one remaining. WO Jones informed LtCmdr Vance that the Jamming signal had been initiated. Vokar's security officers had arrived and he gave them the list of the Vulcan people he wanted to interview as soon as he was done in science. Akida felt the core go down again and wondered since it hadn't gone down in the last hour if it might be a timed sequence. She asked LtCmdr Kryton-Vance and he told her it was entirely possible. It was also possible that once the nanites discovered they were being jammed they might be capable of adjusting. 65 Como Thompson came to sickbay and sat with Amanda and found her reading a poetry book and asked her about it. Amanda told him it was the one she had on the night shade about 20th century poets. Thompson asked which one she liked best and she told him Robert Frost. Thompson asked Amanda why she was still in bed and she told him that Dr Hutcherson would not let her get up. Thompson was a little surprised. Thompson inadvertently suggested that she should have chose a better mate and Amanda was furious by his insinuation. She got up out of bed and tried to leave and Thompson then realized how that sounded. He new he didn't mean that but she took it wrongly. Amanda finally broke down and cried and she was helped back to her bed by Thompson. They made up and Thompson had to leave again. 66 Akida was sitting and holding her cat Kirara she ordered a blackberry synthaholic wine and thought about Lt Waters. He was her friend and she new there was something wrong. He looked so tired and worn out all the time. She had asked but had not really got anything out of him. Akida felt there was something going on besides the counseling sessions but she didn't know what. Then her cat brought her to a place on the computer about Vedalans. 67 Akida read the report about the fact that Vedalans could absorb dream nightmares from other people relieving them of problems that caused them not to be able to sleep which degraded their health. The main thing was that the Vedalan had to sleep near the other person either on the floor near or beside them to absorb their dream nightmare. There was a danger in a successful completion of this process. It was possible that the person absorbing the nightmare could go into a comma resulting in death but it was rare. Akida finished the not so old report and decided to check in with med bay for her checkup in the hope of seeing Dr Hutcherson. She got dressed and left for med bay. 68 ** Dr. Hutcherson discusses Jenkins' condition with Drs. O'Neill (surgery) and Evensen (neurology). Jenkins appears to have recovered quickly, ready for discharge. O'Neill mentions the disruption caused by the CO and the patient in the ICU. Hutcherson admits he should've been there to resolve the issue. 69 ** Med student Mark Emerson gives CEO Akida Jackson a check-up. Near the end of the exam, Dr. Hutcherson steps in quietly to speak with the student. Akida greets Hutcherson, and the two discuss Lt. Waters' condition. Waters has returned to light duty at Engineering, but is still recovering. 70 ** Akida tells Dr. Hutcherson that Waters seems to be tired all the time, and assumes that her fellow engineer wasn't sleeping enough due to constant nightmares. She mentions a Vedalan technique of 'absorbing' nightmares, but since it's not a proven method, Hutcherson recommends Akida not to try it yet. 71 Ens Vokar sat at his office in Tactical with four padds on his desk. The first padd was Lt Cable Jackson. He set it to the side. The second was Lt (JG) John Jackson. Vokar also set that to the side. The third was a recruit and the fourth padd was one of his interviews Petty Officer First Class T'Vath. He called T'Vath on his COMM. The Vulcan engineering technician reported to Ens Vokar's office not knowing what it was about. He told T'Vath to sit down and questioned her about the last battle where the mechanical wasps were involved. T'Vath replied that she was almost stung several times. Vokar mentioned the sensor targeting incident where they went down momentarily and wanted to know her where abouts and involvement if any. T'Vath replied she was in engineering. Vokar also mentioned that the person they were looking for was Vulcan and had experience with the Kolinar codes. T'Vath replied that she was aware of the code but hadn't the experience to use it. Vokar checked her with his touch telepathy and found she was telling the truth. He released T'Vath and she went back to engineering. 72 Ens Voker was in the transporter room waiting for the two security officers Cable and John Akida's brothers to beam in with Akida. They did and looked around. At the same time Cmdr Dex was approaching transporter room three and heard the beam in. He went into the transporter room and saw the two similar looking men step off with Akida. Dex finally realized the reason they looked so similar was thy were Akida's family. Dex jokingly warned Ens Vokar that Brothers and sisters don't fight fair and to stay out of the way. Dex started to head on back to go to science as Vokar greeted the two new security officers. Vokar was going to show them around the ship and Akida decided to tag along. At this time a new person beamed in and she appeared to be a well figured young lady with a black cat ears and tail. She identified herself to Dex as Lt Katherine Turner the new ships consoler. Cmdr Dex decided to show the lady around the ship. 73 ** Dr. Hutcherson finishes up paperwork at the ICU, preparing to go off-duty until the next morning, when he'll be starting his 4-week surgical rotation with Dr. O'Neill. While watching news broadcast on recent battles against the Second Dominion, Hutcherson 'feels' the ship dropping out of warp. 74 2Lt Prescott went into the holo deck to run a simulation and Cadet Tatlock reported in in flight uniform to train with him. Lt Prescott decide to try him out and had him pilot a Type 9a shuttle craft that was modified and stripped down to allow for a grappling cannon and several phaser cannons. The holo marines climbed on board with Prescott and Tatlock piloting. The take off was smooth and they piloted through debris and approached a hull breach with a deck opening to it. Tatlock got them within 30 feet of the deck and stabilized the shuttle. The marines sealed their EVA suits and the side door opened and the grappling lines went out. The marines including Prescott disembarked to the Star base deck when a random programmed problem hit in the form of debris striking the shuttle. The grapping line cut loose and the shuttle destabilized and the marines were loose in the holo vacuum. Tatlock re-stabilized the shuttle and tried to recover the marines but Prescott belayed that order and told Tatlock to return to base to pick up more marines and the loose marines would jet on in on their thrusters. At that point the holo program ended prematurely due to corruption and an engineering review. Prescott found that the engineers had shut down all holo decks ending his training for that day. 76 James came home to quarters after a long day at the lab and sat down putting his brief case down and picked up his son. He didn't want to wake his sleeping wife. He new what kind of a day she had in hydroponics. James enjoyed playing with Kyle and the little guy made him feel better. Erin awoke hearing them play and came out of the bedroom and watched. It delighted her to see James and Kyle play but then she noticed how tire James looked and went in to the living room to check on James. Erin kissed her husband and could tell he was very tired. She wanted to know what was going on. James told her about the nanitie problem with the warp core and it stalling the drive and the possible ships contamination. Erin called the crèche to take care of Kyle. She wanted Kyle protected and told James she was going to get together with WO Jones and set up the programming to take care of the nanite problem as far as Akida's detector was concerned. Erin got dressed and kissed James and put him to bed. She told him at least 6 hours no less and headed out with Kyle to drop him off at the crèche and then head to the lab to check in with Jones. 77 Ens. K'Eklyr was looking at some Klingon calligraphy and practicing it for relaxation and also some poetry. Then K'Eklyr started back on her drones drawing up the specs deciding how she wanted them. Ens. K'Eklyr figured with these Vindicator could get a good look at what was actually going on SB 369.
