The CSCI, James Kryton-Vance, is present and introduces him to the science department. Matt asks the CSCI if he could use the science labs for some of his work here in order to write a research paper. Vance allows this and reminds the AMO of the department's safety guidelines and other protocols. The two chat for a while, getting to know each other a little more, before Matt heads off. The doctor is suddenly summoned by the CO office, and he heads up the decks to see what Thompson had called him for. Cmdr Dex was working on his padds when two new recruits were brought into the XO office Lt Jackson a new AEO and Cdt Vokar a new ASEC. Dex greeted them and told them the Vindicator was a fine ship and there were two types of crew on board: new crew and older experienced crew. The new crew looked at every thing with aw and wonder and the older experienced had seen everything and it was as work. Dex preferred the former since it was more fun and the ship currently has 44 different races on her including Lt Jackson. Dex learned that Lt Jackson was from Vedala but was adopted and raised in Salem, Massachusetts. Lt Jackson loved to climb and read a good book. Dex remembered his climbing experience best left to the younger group. Cdt Vokar was a Vulcan and would be working with the CSEC a cowboy. Even for a Vulcan this would be an interesting experience since Vokar was just starting out. Cdt Vokar informed Cmdr Dex that he liked to read up on the Senior officers aboard ship. Vokar mentioned Commodore Thompson a highly decorated officer and Cmdr Dex receiving the Golden Nebula award. Cmdr Dex took the officers first to engineering where Lt Jackson meet Lt Stadi and then he took Jackson to her quarters. Finally he took Cdt Vokar to the security division to meet the CSEC. The Vindicator dropped out of warp at the Edge of the Hanton system and went over to impulse drive. Bishop informed Commodore Thompson that the indicated planet was the 4th planet based on the data from the USS-Zeus. Thompson ordered helm to proceed to the designated coordinates and Carson to call a yellow alert. Thompson watched as they proceeded inward to the fourth plant. A space station appeared on the screen orbiting the planet and Thompson ordered an intercept course. Once they reached the station Thompson opened a channel to the station. The station administrator responded a Mr. Charles Whitmore and Thompson informed him about tracking signals to this sector from an array believed rearranged by Vanguard. Since this was a high priority Star fleet matter about classified intelligence images from a Federation sensor array. They had reason believe the station might be receiving these images and under federation law had the right to check the stations computers for down load of this information in regard to Vanguard activity. The administrator refused admittance saying this was a civilian facility and that didn't apply and they would repel any attempted boarding. Thompson checked with Carson to see if they had weapons and Carson found they had a phaser array and older style torpedoes. Thompson then continued on the channel and the Vindicator lurched as the star base fired on the Vindicator with it's phaser array. Thompson ordered Carson to return fire. Lt Vance decide to check the computer data base for his wife's origin since they had 24 hours before reporting in again. It was near end of shift. The data that came back was some what sketchy but Lt Vance found that Erin's planet Omaridin was apparently one of three in the Kylon system in the lagoon galaxy. It was a system near the outer edge of that galaxy in the Sebacian Empire. Enough environmental data was found to be present to create a holo simulation of the planets environment. Lt Vance created a hole program for this environment near a sea with a Igloo like cottage on the beach. He set it for a vacant holodeck no 3 and activated the program. Lt Vance then went to the holodeck at the end of his shift and checked it out. In his mind it appeared to be reasonable. He felt since Erin's pregnancy had progressed and it was coming closer. Erin needed some special relaxation and Lt Vance felt a visit to her home world might be the ticket. Lt Vance then returned to his quarters to get Erin. Lt Jackson unpacked her three crates the first one was holo pictures of her mom, dad and brother on Loa. She placed the pictures in locations where she would frequent. The second crate was her cloths and uniforms. She unpacked the cloths and hung it in the closet. The third crate was a case of books that she loved to curl up with and read. She placed these in a large book shelf. The last thing was a small container containing her pet cat Kirara and the animal jumped out. It was a two tailed cat with large red eyes. Akida let it explore her quarters. Akida then took a sonic shower and cleaned up revealing that she had blond cat like ears and a blond cat like tail. Akida sat down for a while thinking about the CEO. What was he like and then she thought about the 44 races on the ship. Akida felt that she was different and it saddened her. ** Dr. Hutcherson heads up to the CO's office, and is greeted by Thompson, who introduces an already-present marine, Gunnery Sergeant Redding. The CO asks Matt whether he would be able to work as a combat physician with the marines, while at the same time take normal duty at Sickbay with Dr. Rhodes. Matt says it should be okay, while a doubtful Redding looks on. The marine platoon sergeant believes Matt should stay in Sickbay, and that combat medicine is not for him. Thompson keeps his decision and assigns the AMO to tag along on marine missions as a medic. The doctor is to report to the Holodeck for some training at 0300 hours. Lt Biship started the lateral sensor array and found seven planets, two of them gas giants and two distinct asteroid fields. Hanton itself was a main sequence K-type star, and only two of the inner planets had any kind of atmosphere. But at this time Auryn was only really interested in the 4th planet as indicated by the USS-Zeus data. Auryn felt that it was pay back time if they could find Vanguard presence they most assuredly had cause due to the embarrassment earlier with the Vindicator. The Vindicator dropped out of warp at the outskirts of the Hanton system and a course was laid in to the 4th plant under Yellow Alert. The space station was discovered and the Vindicator approached it. The channel was opened with the administrator of the station Charles Whitmore. The negotiations with Thompson and Whitmore did not go well and Auryn felt something was wrong the way the star base acted. The star base opened fire on the Vindicator shaking the ship as their phasers hit Vindicator's shields. Auryn rerouted primary sensor control to Carson's tactical station and had to deal with a eps spike due to the phaser blast hitting the shields. The Vindicator returned fire with slow steady shots preventing excessive energy drain and allowing more rapid recharge. Despite helm's best efforts the Vindicator's shields were being hit more and more. Auryn had to fight with equalizing more and power surges. They were now in battle. James meet Erin at their quarters and told her he was taking her on a holodeck trip on their time off. Erin and James decided to go right away and took off for holodeck 3. Erin arrived at the holodeck and went in with James. She was stunned it was so much like what she remembered as a child about her home world. Erin was elated it was so close the colors, smells, everything, it brought back childhood memories. She ran down to the beach by the large dark sea and spied two lawn chairs on the veranda of the cottage. She went to one and laid down and looked at the colors in the night sky. It gave Erin so much peace. She fell asleep due to the feeling of being in her childhood home. James sat and watched her for awhile in the other chair in the moon light. James thought how lucky he was to have Erin. On the moon lit beach James thought about Erin shortly to be a mother and himself a father it was a new experience for them both but James felt he was up to the challenge of the pitter patter of little feet and he was eager to try. He listened to his babies heartbeat for a while and felt it was strong and even. Then James just wanted to be close to Erin feeling how lucky he was. Erin finally woke seeing that James was not asleep and crying. She new he was emotional this night and took him to lie down on the beach on a blanket. Erin wanted James to sleep. So she laid down with him and put him to sleep in her love. Morning came Erin and James ate and started to explore their holo world. The ship shook and the holodeck shut down and SM Jones called them telling them the Csci was needed on the bridge and the Vindicator was under attack. James acknowledged and returned power to the grid. Erin and James headed of to the bridge to find out who was attacking the ship. Lt Stadi erected a force shield around the warp core in case the Vindicator was boarded. Stadi monitored operations and found that the automated power transfer algorithms were delivering power correctly to different locations. His panel beeped and Stadi saw that the front shields were taking a beating and he diverted power from nonessential areas to beef up the front shields and forward phaser array. Stadi ordered Crewman Laverty to watch the phaser power and he ordered McNeill to increase the definition on the sensors to look for hits on the station. Stadi continued monitoring as the ship continued to be hit. Deck six incurred an eps panel blow out and a damage control was sent to repair it and check for casualties in the med bay. Crewman Laverty monitored the phaser levels, continually leveling the array power and analyzing the sensor telemetry going through the ship. Lt Carson took his station as they entered the Hanton system and he listened as the orders were given to proceed to the fourth planet because of the Zeus data. It was observed that a space station was in orbit around this planet and very quickly the Vindicator bared down on it. Dan was alarmed when the station administrator acted so stubbornly and wasn't surprised when Commodore Thompson asked him to check the systems weapons capability. He was surprised to find the station so well armed but he felt the Vindicator would be able to handle it. Thompson appraised of this continued communications and at that point the Vindicator was fired on. After being ordered to fire Dan targeted the shields bringing them down to 50% and with the phaser array and torpedoes behind it. Dan dropped the shields. Dan then targeted the weapons and disabled the stations ability to return fire. ** (Residency Holo-Simulation Program) Matt discusses the ICU's most recent admission with an E.R. doctor and a cardiologist. The patient is 15 year-old Ryan, presented with a sustained rapid heart rate and a history of cardiac surgery to correct an in-born defect. The plan is to control the kid's heart rate before starting Amiodarone therapy. If medications don't work, they'll proceed with cardioversion (electrically pacing the heart back to a normal rhythm). Ryan's parents are both Starfleet officers away on assignments, and aren't around to provide support for their son. Matt feels uncomfortable with this, and gets on the comm to see if he can contact them. Cdt Vokar had two crates in his quarters and unpacked his first one. It was his cloths and he neatly placed them in a large chest drawers. Vokar then unpacked the second crate. First he took a holo picture of his family and placed it by the computer terminal and spread the rest around the room. Vokar had heard about 20th century chess at the academy and unpacked his chess board. He was going to try playing chess. He then placed a rock that glowed when touched by his bed a present from his sister T'Asir. Vokar had 20 minutes before reporting in for duty and decided to read up on the senior officers. He was especially interested in the Commodore since he had a long track record and many awards. With 15 minutes past he dressed and made himself ready to report in for duty. Vokar a bit nervous headed to the XO's office. The newcomer Cdt Vokar asked Cmdr Dex about Lt Reid since he had not found out much about him as they traveled the turbo lift. Cdt Vokar wanted to make a good impression on Lt Reid. Cmdr Dex thought for a moment and answered. Lt Reid is a true warrior and a fighter that prays for peace and like a bull dog will bit into a mission and not let go. He will tear up the Universe if necessary to complete the mission. The neatly dressed Cdt and the XO walked into security and met the CSEC Lt Reid who was busy gearing up the pak. Cdt Vokar stepped forward to introduce himself as the ship took a hit. The Klaxons rang and the red alert sounded. Lt Reid gave Cdt Vokar the immediate job of protecting the CO and the XO. Dex asked Lt Reid to give Vokar his COM badge and phaser. Cmdr Dex and Cdt Vokar headed for the turbo Lift and Lt Reid ordered Crewman Hernandez in on the double armed to his side. Cdt Arthur Carsons had been in temporary quarters for the last 23 days he had not unpacked yet but he had assumed this was where star fleet had put him. He just received word and got his bags and left he was going to the Vindicator and Carson looked at his Padd on the promenade There was a shuttle going to the Vindicator caring last minute supplies and personal. Carson thought that was him and boarded the shuttle. He shortly arrived at the Vindicator and went to report in. ** Dr. Hutcherson attends the 'evening report' of Sickbay's beta shift at the ship's lounge. Beta shift is the team he'll be working with on the Vindicator. The evening report would normally be held daily to review patient cases, but since Sickbay is mostly empty for now, departmental management is today's topic. We also meet four other members of the team, each described by Matt. A few of them wonder why the ship has been ordered to the Hanton System, and it's not long until red-alert is called due to the station's attacks. The beta shift team calmly leaves the lounge and heads back to Sickbay to accept possible casualties (depending on how rough the fight gets). Commodore Thompson watch the battle from his captains chair in the ready room. The battle was pretty one sided. The station fired back but it wasn't effective against the Vindicator. When Lt Carson called him asking for orders after dropping shields to station and disabling weapons Thompson was not surprised and opened a channel to the station feeling better about the situation. The Vindicator was suddenly rocked by the blast from photon torpedoes. An orbital platform appeared out of nowhere shooting at the Vindicator. Carson returned fired and destroyed it with quantum torpedoes. Both Lt's Bishop and Carson were stunned. The platform had appeared out of no where. Nothing showed on sensors and there was no tacheon trail indicating a clocked system. Two more platforms appeared from no where and rocked the Vindicator with torpedo fire. Thompson ordered helm to evasive maneuvers but there was to many torpedoes being fired. Helm tried to evade but the Vindicator took the brunt of the hits. Decks 3, 5, 8 had eps conduits blown and a port nanocell was damaged and shields were down 50%. Lt Carson lost automatic firing control and had to go manual. Lt Carson destroyed another but more appeared out of nowhere. Thompson appraising the situation tried to give and order but another torpedo slammed into Vindicator and knock Thompson forward. Thompson hit the helm consol going unconscious. After being shaken and knocked down by the blast Lt Vance got up finding Commodore Thompson unconscious and due to the damage and continuing weapons fire Lt Vance ordered helm to get the Vindicator out of the area at full impulse to the outside of the Hanton system. Tactical was ordered to keep track of any more of those orbital devices in case they were followed and to appraise Star Fleet command of the situation. Commodore Thompson was beamed to sick bay triage and Lt Kryton was beamed to the bridge to man science. Lt Vance ordered engineering to look into the decks 3,5, 8 eps conduits due to immediate damage and medical was ordered to care for injured and security was ordered to help. Lt Vance seeing that Cmdr Dex and Lt Reid were stuck in a transport tube ordered engineering to get them out of there as soon as possible. Lt's Kryton and Bishop were asked to look into the orbital platforms and to how they may be better detected them so that Tactical may more effectively target them. Lt Vance suspected that a light and sensor coating may be involved and gave them reference to old research by the Vindicator. Lt Vance watched out the view screen hoping they had time for repairs and information could be gleaned on the orbital platforms before the next assault occurred. The Vindicator being an Excalibur star ship is considered colossal in size. Stretching 1.16 kilometers from the forward hull to the tail, spanning a width of almost 600 meters, and holding 46 decks. Because of its size the sick bay is very large including 35 patient rooms (5 trauma, 10 intensive care, 12 observation, 4 triage, 3 fast-track). For this reason Dr Hutcherson considered it close to and ER type situation due to the much more busy atmosphere. Mark told Dr Hutcherson that casualties were on there way. Gamma and epsilon teams got dressed in their protective glasses and gowns reading themselves for patients. Dr Hutcherson could feel the ship vibrate after red alert had been called. It may have been the ship maneuvering. Sick Bay during a red alert was complicated. Hutcherson was at the triage desk coordinating communications between the EMS medics getting ready to take casualties from the 46 decks. Mark followed close behind Dr Hutcherson and Hutcherson told him to be on the look out for the CMO so that they could provide a quick report on his arrival. Lt Rhodes was eating lunch when the red alert was called and he rushed back to sick bay. he had spent a lot of time preparing sick bay and was glade he had .Lt Rhodes rushed over to the shift supervisor and asked the Ensign about the situation. They had over 20 injured some critically but no casualties yet. so far it was going like clock work. Lt Rhode went to one of the biobeds and checked on a woman. She had been burned by a bursting plasma conduit. Lt Rhode s immediately administered a hypo for the pain and told her to try and relax. They would be with her as soon as possible. he moved on to the next patient think it will never be dull in triage. Lt Jackson felt the ship lurch and new trouble was afoot and she listened to Lt Stadi's orders: Divert nonessential systems power to phasers and shields, keep an eye on phaser levels, and increase sensitivity to sensors. Eps blow out on deck 6. Lt Jackson was handed a tool box and went with the damage control team. Akida thought they would climb the Jeffries tubes but the officer in charge decided to take the lift from deck 27 to deck 8 since it would be quicker. The team entered the lift. Akida observed her team one was bolian having blue skin , another was betazoid having black eyes. The officer in charge was human she could smell it. They reached deck 8 and exited to the corridor and headed to the Jeffries tube. Akida went first with a rope on her waist. They reached deck 6 and continued to the blown out panel. Akida helped reroute a power short away from the team by using her claws and then helped to cut replacement conduit using her claws. The panel and conduit now replaced and just finished Akida heard more orders from Lt Vance: more blown conduits on decks 3, 5, and 8, LtCmdr Dex and Lt Reid stuck in transport lifts needed to be freed. Shield generators required checking.
