Until next week: Captain Thompson ___________________________________________________________________ | W E E K I N R E V I E W | ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ *** Matt Hutcherson meets up with his friend Chase (who brings along his girlfriend) at the SB22 Promenade. They have an enjoyable dinner at a Vietnamese-fusion restaurant, during which Chase challenges Matt to eat half a chili pepper. Chase is to eat the other half. But only after Matt chews on his own does he realize his friend had hidden the second half. Matt feels foolish and suffers a painful, burning tongue. Matt sees it as silly yet good fun, even explaining what exactly causes the 'chili hot' sensations. Looking out a wide window into the space dock, Matt watches as the Vindicator is towed to the terminals. Not a very good first impression, he feels, and feels sorry for it's Captain. *** While looking for his quarters within a random corridor on the Vindicator, Dr. Hutcherson bumps to the CO, who happened to be walking by. Slightly nervous being out of uniform, Hutcherson introduces himself as AMO after being mistaken as a civilian and violating off-limits regulations. Thompson shows Matt the way and even walks the doctor to his quarters. During the short trip, Matt gets to know his CO a little better, and feels comfortable around him. He realizes Thompson's not the excessively 'strict' type of person, despite the man's position on board the ship. Thompson asks the doctor a few questions, learning that the Vindicator is Matt's first assignment. He also tells the new AMO how he used to be a physician, until they 'made him wear a red uniform'. Thanking the CO, Matt heads into his quarters, and Thompson leaves Lt Rhodes was called to the bridge ready room by Commodore Thompson. Zach reported in and the commodore told him to take a seat. The Commodore told Zack that since Ens Nights was tied up in studies on SB 22 that a permanent CMO was need. The Commodore Offered the position to Lt Rhodes. Lt Rhodes accepted the position and was eager to get started. Thompson told Rhodes that he had a new AMO resident and he should get with him before we leave SB 22. Lt Rhodes said he would get right on it. Lt Stadi initiated the reboot of the main core. The core had shut down and everything was going as planned. Cmdr Dex a little nervous but sure that would succeed tried to tell some jokes and everybody was so intently busy they simply weren't catching the jokes. Cmdr Dex also was a little taken by the fact that his Vole Charlie was now in the hands of the Asci and likely in a cage in the arboretum. Dex sort of missed the little guy. Lt Bishop noted that the joke about the golf ball Liberation army was amusing. Auryn intently monitored the screens and everything was going on schedule with no trace of the virus showing as the system went back on line. Lt Bishop had sent Lt Vance a message about the emitter on the array device they found. Lt Vance assure Lt Bishop that had been taken care of preventing any code rewriting. All systems went back on line including redundant subsystems. With the Vindicator 100% back up Engineer gave them a cheer. The sb 22 technicians would help with the diagnostics to allow for some R&R under Lt Stadi's guidance. And Auryn felt he was going to have to find a way to meet his new girl friend. Major Keric Perkins, SSarg Mark Redding, and Lcpl Jack Kennedy attended the awards ceremony and applauded the Star Fleet officers whom received medals and decorations. Como Thompson reviewed his information as he was about to dismiss the crew and found there were some more awards for the marines. Perkins , Redding and Kennedy were asked to step forward. they were each given the Semper Fidelis award as the marines were dismissed Thompson pulled Redding aside. Redding was awarded a new rank that of a Gunnery Sergeant. GSarg Mark Redding was pleased and after the round of applause Thompson granted the crew R & R. Auryn stood on the deck of a schooner in the SB 22 holodeck he felt the realism was actually better than on the Star ships he could smell the salt in the air. He had sailed these ships as a teenager in San Francisco Bay area. Auryn felt the uniform and sword and belt he had on was very loose. He felt he looked snobbish and that he might look better as a buccaneer. Auryn thought about the award he had been given by Como Thompson and wondered if he would stay in Star Fleet as long as Common Thompson and Cmdr Dex. But Auryn felt he had work to do and left the holodeck. Como Thompson finally got some free time to pursue his holodeck novel Police Officer Sammy Bonds the Lytton Police department Lytton California. The year was 1988 and his car was 83-32. He was driving along and informed of a MVA at Rose and 7th. Bonds turned on the siren and proceeded to the destination. he reached the destination and found a green car had slammed into the back of a Liquor store. There was a crowd of people present and Bonds went up to the car to check it out and found a man slumped over the wheel with a bullet hole in his head. Bonds reported the murder and asked for the coroner. Bonds then checked the crowd for information. One man came forward telling Bonds that a blue 1970 Cadillac pulled along side the green car and an occupant shoot into the green car. The man said the license plate of the blue Cadillac was L-264. Bonds reported the description and the partial license plate and waited for the coroner. The police lieutenant arrived with the coroner and told Bonds to get cracking and catch this person. Como Thompson was watching ship enter and leave SB 22 from his ready room and Lt Carson came in and stood at attention. Thompson was slightly startled but Lt Carson explained that the Chime did seem to work so he came on in with his padd. Thompson found Carson was the new Ctac and asked if he had any experience noting he was from the USS-Destiny. Carson replied that he was Csec there but had had some duty with it. Thompson asked if he new captain Yanai. Carson explained he had been on some LOA for periods of time and had served under Como Frost and Captain Treon Brevor. Thompson told Carson his quarters were on deck 3 and that he wanted him to check the phaser array and get some practice in on the holodeck. Lt Carson said he would get right to it as soon as he deposited his stuff in his quarters. *** Hutcherson gets familiar with his new room, and starts unpacking. He ends up with a huge mess and decides to finish it off later, as he has other important things to get done. Checking his subspace inbox with his computer, Matt receives his first holo-simulation from Vancouver General Hospital (weekly updates to keep up with his residency training). He calls home and his brother Dylan answers, and they chat for a bit. Matt talks to his mother as well, who reminds him to be careful. Leaving the mess in his room, Matt heads off to the Holodeck to check on the residency simulation, and also reminds himself that he needs to see the XO and CMO some time soon. Dan Carson found his quarters and that holodeck 1 was free, stowed his gear and went there. Dan had read up on the Vindicator and found that it had 12 phaser emitters and 4 torpedo tubes. He went in and started his simulation. Dan first tried different weapon combinations destroying asteroids. When Dan was satisfied with that he went to a Romulan War Bird Stealth attack. The sim proceeded. The war bird decloaked and fired disruptors. Thompson ordered the Red Alert and shields up and Dan immediately complied. The ship rumbled as the fire hit the shields. Thompson ordered return fire. Dan fired a direct hit and the War Bird was down to 85% on shields. Dan fired again and the War Bird was down to 75 % on shields. The War Bird cloaked. Dan suggested a 360 degree phaser spray. He new that with a wide spray the chance was good for a low power hit which would momentarily bring down the War Birds shields. This could be followed by torpedoes causing a destructive blow. Thompson oked it and it was tried the bird was hit and the torpedoes followed destroying the War bird. Dan continued his practice for two hours. Lt Stadi rested for about 9 hours and and dressed in the proper attire required by the Commodore and headled for the holodeck. He was happy to receive his award it made him feel aprriciated. After that he headed for main engineering and meet up with the CEO of star base 22 His people had been running diagnostics and finishing up allowing the vindicator engineers to get some R & R. The higher ranking officer reported everything was ok and Stadie took over aallowing the other officer to return o SB 22. Lt Stadi started his report on the Array mission. Lt Carson finished up his meal and cleared the utensils from the tray and got up to leave the mess hall. He ran into Ens Frank Sullivan whom had been sent to up date him. Dan talked with him and told him to have himself and the other Atacs meet him in the mess at 0900 tomorrow. Lt Carson headed for the turbo lift, entered , and exited on the bridge. From the holodeck runs he was quite familiar with the set up. Carson noticed the torpedoes were at full capacity. Moments later Ens Sullivan entered and reported in for duty. Lt Carson asked him to run diagnostic and check the phaser array and be extremely careful about targeting, a fraction of a millimeter off could be the difference between hit the warp core and the weapons system. The Ensign said he would get right on it. Dr. Hutcherson heads to the Holodeck and inputs this week's simulation (from Vancouver General Hospital) into the computer. Running the program, he is 'greeted' by the ICU Chief Resident, who hands Matt a list of patients on the critical care service. Dr. Jane Menzo, a senior resident, chats with Matt and tells him how the holo-simulation is designed specially for his training, and how most holograms are fully self-aware (knowing themselves to be holograms). Matt also meets a programmed medical student, named Anne Gregson. Matt is to send the results of his holo-simulation back to VGH every week so he could be evaluated. Having received his shedules and orientation info, Matt leaves the Holodeck to report to his XO. Lt Stadi went to the holodeck and spent a brief time period there resting, before returning to duty in the engine room. He noted that the warp core was minimally powered and he returned to his office to complete a report. LtJG Carson left the bridge and received a report on a diagnostic from Ensign DeSanto, who reported that there was a power fluctuation in the phaser array. He traced the problem to being one from the computers controlling the warp core and Carson headed to Engineering to fix the problem. After having a frustrating time repairing the Vindicator, Dal Dudas went to the Starbase 22 Officer's club, where he met his stepmother. LtJG Carson went to the mess hall and enjoyed some pie, before returning to the tactical station on the bridge and checking the phaser arrays, ordering a diagnostic to improve accuracy. Lt Vance and LtJG Kryton thought back to the promotion ceremony and enjoyed the delight from their awards. Thompson stopped at the CSCI office and was informed about a device discovered on the array, made from Starfleet, Romulan, and Klingon components. Thompson ordered further analysis and, as Kryton entered, he changed his topic to the voles. Kryton and Vance agreed to recover the remaining voles on the Vindicator.
