    Ensign Ramses tossed and turned, his usually comfortable bunk unbearable thanks to the hard cast encasing his fractured arm and torn antenna. In frustration the Andorian gives up on getting the “rest” prescribed by the EMH and gets out of bed and wobbles over to his desk. “I can deal with the broken arm, but why the hell did I need to tear an antenna” he mutters to himself as he waits for the room to stop swimming through his vision.

    Rames’s vision finally clearing he hits the communicator button on his desk. “Computer, begin personal log.” After a long moment the computer beeped backed that it was ready to begin recording. The blue ensign absently drummed the fingers of his fully functional arm on the desk, considering his words carefully.

    “Well, I suppose it was inevitable, but I have finally been injured in my service to Star Fleet. While, I am not privy to the events leading to the near destruction of the ship, I have managed to piece together a few stray facts from ship rumor and what I managed to hear with my own ears while I was being treated for my broken arm. Oh yes, I broke my arm but I’ll get to that in a moment.” Reconsidering his log entry thus far the young Ensign begins to read over it before feeling a wave of nausea causing him to close his eyes. The log would just have to stay as is.

    “Apparently the Melbourne was ordered back to Earth immediately. However, given our location on the rim the journey back to the Sol Sector would have taken years at maximum warp. To our luck the ship has been outfitted with a transwarp drive that allows it to travel at near warp ten speeds allowing us to make the journey in hours instead of years. There is one hell of a catch-22 for using transwarp. While the ship is capable of traveling at transwarp, it was not designed to endure those speeds for extended periods of time.”

    “The Captain pushed the engines to hard causing the warp field to “lock”. Which nearly led to the ship’s destruction. When we eventually dropped out of warp the inertial dampeners failed causing the contents of the ship to decelerate a microsecond after the ship. The results were devastating as everything that was not bolted to the deck plates was slammed into the nearest wall. Personally, my arm attempted to prove that it was stronger the duranium alloy railing that surrounds the warp core. The railing won. Meanwhile flying shrapnel shredded my left antenna, which means I am going to bouncing off the corridor walls for the better part of three months.”

    Gathering himself he decides to record the events he witness in sickbay before being rushed from the room. “While the EMH was patching me up they brought Commander Talbot in on a gurney. He was in pretty bad shape, his uniform covered in blood, and bones piercing the fabric in multiple locations. They wouldn’t let me stay as the doctors worked on him however… I heard a flat line tone as I was leaving… I… I… think the Commander may be dead…”

    “Computer pause log…” the young Andorian ordered as he considered what to say… how do you talk about someone who had died? Giving up for the time being Ramsey pulled himself up and crawled back into bed, exhausted from the activity.

Welcome to the USS Melbourne

The CSS Melbourne has earned its place in UCIP history for, at least, the last ten years. It began by serving in the United Federation of Planets fleet (and this is confirmed by the 2399 simulation reports as the Melbourne-B). That vessel was destroyed in Late 2402 and this vessel, the CSS Melbourne-C was commissioned in its place. The Melbourne currently serves United Confederation Fleet. The advanced Nova-Class, CSS Melbourne NCC-79956-C is the fourth ship to bear the name Melbourne and the second to bear the current registry.

The finest in its class, the Melbourne and her crew proudly and boldly go to the far corners of the uncharted Beta and Delta Quadrants to seek out the mysteries that await.

I would like to publicly thank Josh for his recent work on the Melbourne’s website. At my request he made the modifications necessary for crewmember’s bios to link directly to the UCIP website. This way we only need to maintain our bios in one place instead of two.

The website has also had a few minor modifications including the ranks adjusted to Star Fleet standard and a new title graphic. I encourage everyone to take a couple of minutes and visit the site.

Currently, we are looking for contributors to help provide detailed descriptions of the various locations for the ship tour. If you are interested in lending a help hand please contact me.
