The Stories of Starbase Hephaestus

Judgement Day
Judgement Day

Following an attack from within the station by the Denias, psychic aliens who adopt the knowledge of the people they possess, Hephaestus suffers a cascade failure and ultimately a warp core breach. The crew and populous are scattered across the civilian and Starfleet ships they could evacuate to.

Following the destruction of Starbase Hephaestus, the crew must find their own way back to the Valiant, Hephaestus' attached starship, and come to terms with the loss of both their place of work and their home.

The planet LV1621 serves as a makeshift emergency evacuation centre for those who survived the explosion.

Week: 240804.04 - 240805.10: Starbase Hephaestus is destroyed through sabotage by a warp core breach, and not all the crew get off the station easily. Indeed, a great many people don't get out in time. Those who do find themselves scattered across the ships, shuttles and escape pods.

Week: 240804.27 - 240805.03: The Denias escape from containtment. They immediately take on hosts and launch an internal attack on the station. There's a five minute evacuation warning before Hephaestus self destructs, its crew scattered.

Right to Life
Right to Life

After questioning her own nature the Station AI, HAILIE, finds herself the center of a JAG hearing headed by Commodore Quinh. Kaz, who isn't sure she believes that HAILIE is a new life form, has to argue for her and Lianna, who has become HAILIE's closest friend, is put in the even less enviable position of opposing.

The crew and civilians of Hephaestus who have come to form relationships, or at least opinions, about the hologram are drawn into the process, providing testimony for both sides and the argument will decide whether a Federation science experiment is the answer to its own call to 'seek out new life'.

Will Kaz and Lianna's sense of duty prevail? Does HAILIE have the right to life?

Week: 240704.15 - 240704.21: Aside from a brief bar-brawl between a group of Gorn and marines, life on the station continues to tick over quietly. The JAG hearing of the AI's sentience proceeds with more testimonies being taken, the XO is finally released from the Infirmary, and the Captain finds a way to relax from a busy schedule.

Week: 240704.08 - 240704.14: In the wake of the XO's return to normal and the subsequent disappearance of the monster, rumours start to run about what it actually was. Daljon, who lost a niece and a hand to the monster, is more interested than most. The interviews for the JAG hearing for the station's AI continue, and there are more 'interesting' developments when a Gorn ship docks with the station.

Week: 240704.01 - 240704.07: The new security chief arrives on the station on the same ship as the JAG officer here to oversee HAILIE's assessment of sentience. Brysanna goes through what seems to be the initiation rite of all the major new crew to Hephaestus: a face-hug from the resident Flitmouse.

Hereditary Conditions
Hereditary Conditions

Commander Ak’nel is terminally ill. After a disastrous experimental treatment for Yarmin Fel Syndrome leaves malignant Gorn tissue in his body, not one but two fatal diseases compete to permanently shorten his life span.

The Captain suggests yet another radical treatment from the Black Ops laboratories. After all, as she puts it to him, what does he have left to lose? 'The Amazing' Dr Schlar, believes he can cure Rulask with an engineered form of the virus that created qul'Iw.

As if a dying command officer wasn’t reason enough to worry, the crew also have to contend with an unwanted visitor, of unusually vicious and murderous intent stalking the station.

Week: 240704.01 - 240704.07: The ongoing problem of the monster is finally resolved following an encounter with the Chief Medical Officer and a more damning fight with the Captain. The XO's body is soon forced to reverse the mutation and is being kept under strict observation by Black Ops.

Week: 240703.25 - 240703.31: Knowledge that the monster loose on the station is actually the Executive Officer complicates the matter of putting it down and keeping the populus safe. Life continues as normal in some small corners of the station, but elsewhere the Captain has formulated a plan to hunt down her officer herself.

Week: 240703.18 - 240704.24.: Hephaestus sees a hard few weeks as the XO's condition deteriorates before he 'disappears' and a 'monster' turns up and starts picking off the populus in savage attacks.

Week: 240703.11 - 240703.17: Security works to maintain order and engineering keeps up with the damage, though this is complicated by the chief falling into Pon Farr.

Week: 240703.04 – 240703.10: Doctor S'Larr discovers that the creature used to be the XO and informs the Captain who instigates an order for non-lethal force. Security takes to this as well as Daljon would, the barowner having lost both a niece and a hand to it now.

Week: 240702.25 – 240703.03: Captain Harrington suggests a new treatment for LtCmdr Ak'nel's condition, which seems to have promising results. Meanwhile the security staff of Hephaestus is bolstered with new transfers just in time for Keyes to take his leave from the department again. Doctor S'Larr reaches a breaking point of sorts, with repercussions yet to reveal themselves. Meanwhile personal relationships continue to form and shift between the crew.

Week: 240702.18 – 240702.24: LtCmdr Ak'nel's condition worsens as S'Larr's treatment backfires. The LtCmdr seems strangely unaffected having already come to terms with fatal illness. The news hits the doctor harder.
