The makers of Star Trek Online, the new MMORPG game that is being developed around the Star Trek theme have released the results of a survey into the thoughts of potential players of game.
As the target audience for this game will very much feature people who are Star Trek fans who also have an interest in role-playing games, the question has to be asked of how much this research can apply to the services we try to provide in a SIM group.
With 39% of people asked being interested in a command role but only 28% interested in being crew, this sort of attitude would not be sustainable in our environment. However, some of the other elements of the survey could be useful to gear the services that our division and group provides potential members in the future.
Certainly, many of us will continue to watch the development of the STO project with interest as it may be the first new frontier that the Star Trek SIMmer has stepped into since leaving online services like AOL for the freedom of the Internet.
