Biography

Childhood

James John Archer was born on approximately 237910.29 and was brought into a local orphanage on Rigel 4 a few months after being born and dropped off by an unknown women. She asked them to care for him and refused to give hers or the fathers name. The women disappeared into the night never to be seen again. Tried as they might the orphanage didn’t have the resources to locate James’ parents. What they did find though was that James was half Betazoid. He was the first Betazoid child they had gotten so they had no knowledge on how to deal with his abilities.

Finally they managed to get enough money when James was 2 to get a Betazoid teacher to come in and teach him to block off the thoughts of others. Unfortunately that’s all they could afford to do and when James was 3 the teacher left, much to James’ dismay. From there James spent a lot of his time growing up like most orphans trying to imagine his parents and figure out why he was left there. James kept to himself mostly until he met another young orphan, John Liconie. The two became fast friends and James started teach John how to block out the mental noise like he had been. After that the two were inseparable and put on plays for the other children

As they got older James started excelling in zeno studies and the martial arts and boxing. He and John started finding their own way and while still friends they didn’t spend as much time together as before. James honed his fighting skills and entered any championship he could, even if he was out of his weight class. He eventually became the top boxer in the orphanage and was ranked 25 in the boxing circuit. It was while he was boxing in a televised match when he was 14, that his father happened to be on leave and in the stands. His father found him after the fight and congratulated him and asked is name. When he told him his name his father dropped his jaw and stood staring in shock. After the initial shock his father managed to tell him who he was and explained why he hadn’t come sooner. James’ father had received a communication while on Earth that indeed he had a son but that the son had been killed. The message hadn’t been signed so his father had no clue what to make of it.

After chatting most of the night James’ father pulled him out of the orphanage and took him back to the USS Yamamoto where he served as a Marine 1st Lieutenant. While there he learned about Starfleet and the Marines first hand. He watched his father train with the platoon and had camping trips in the holodeck as well as what ever planet they were near every few month. His father taught him survival techniques and about everything from plants to other species and cultures. James had decided what he wanted to do with his life by the time he was 17, he wanted to follow in his fathers foot steps and become a Marine.

Stafleet Marine Corps Boot Camp and Starfleet Academy

When he was old enough he entered Starfleet academy as a marine, following in his fathers footsteps. The first thing the drill instructor noticed was the confidence he exuded. This made him a natural leader though he never thought anything of it. The instructor assigned James as the Cadet Sergeant after his second week. James couldn’t have been prouder but he quickly found out there was more to leading then just giving orders.

As happens when people are cooped up together day in and day out little fights and scuffles broke out. He tried his best but ended up drawn in to the fights more often then not. The instructor reluctantly striped James of his stripes. This tore James up but he didn’t quit, he thought back to his fathers teachings and watched his drill instructor. Over time James had honed his leadership ability, not only breaking up the fights but getting even the people with the worse grudges to work together.

He was given another chance at Cadet Sergeant and this time was able to manage keeping his squad together. From there, due to his previous experience from the orphanage, he excelled when it came to hand to hand combat. After boot camp he was transferred to Starfleet Academy for OCS. He had decided on wanting to lead a platoon as his father had but that hadn’t felt right to him then At end of his 3rd yr. he was in a lounge playing a piloting game when a fighter Instructor came by and noticed him. The instructor talked to him and convinced him to enroll in flight training.

James thought it over and switched his MOS even though it required additional training. He pushed himself hard and managed to make up the time he’d missed and still graduate with his class on 240110.11

Early Starfleet Career

After the academy James was assigned to the first USS Griffin as a fighter pilot and Marine. There wasn’t a Marine officer position open at the time so he took the rate of Private First Class. Because of his flight training and current flight status special arrangements were made for him to also fly a fighter, though not on his first cruise. His first assignment was the defense of the Griffin from Lyrans who’d ambushed the ship. He defended it with the rest of the crew but ended up shot through the shoulder.

He, along with the rest of the crew minus the Captain, were confined to the shuttle bay. There, led by 1st Lieutenant Aria Falcon, they broke free and retook the ship. James, along with the rest of the crew, was assigned to the new Griffin, USS Griffin-A a katana class ship. Once aboard he proved his versatility not only on the ground but in the cockpit as well. He flew with Griffins squadron until the order came down from the new Captain that he needed to make a choice. After meeting with Falcon he decided to stay with the Marines.

He’d gotten attached to his squad and didn’t want to leave the platoon to go Navy. He was allowed to keep his flight certification and assigned as a dropship pilot. He distinguished himself making his way through Corporal. It was during this time he was called to defend the Griffin again, this time from Orions and rogue Starfleet personnel. He did well until he was pinned down with his squad by enemy.

He decided to use a frag grenade to clear the corridor and not only injured himself but several engineering crew as well. He was taken to sickbay and release after shrapnel was removed from his lower back. Despite injuring himself he was promoted to Sergeant though he remained a squad leader. Soon after he was sent to Bethesda Naval Hospital on Earth to recover from injuries and complications sustained while defending the Griffin from intruders on SD 240207.26.

After being transferred to Bethesda James was bed ridden. The shrapnel in his back had split before the doctors removed it and the second piece had worked it’s way to his spine. The pressure put on his lower spine had paralyzed him below the waist. This killed him emotionally and he reverted back into the shell he formed as a child, refusing to see anyone even his father. His father contacted John and told him what was going on and John immediately headed for Earth.

James refused to see him but John didn’t take no for an answer and barged in through the medical staff. After getting slapped around and beat up by John James finally came to his senses. He worked hard to keep himself in shape refusing to be discharged from the Corps. He went before a board of inquiry and was given 6 months to meet the fitness standards or he would be discharged. He worked himself hard with Johns help over the next few week but because of the shrapnel he was getting worse.

A month after the inquiry a civilian doctor who had heard about James through a colleague had come to see him. She offered James a chance for an experimental surgery that would allow the shrapnel and defective piece of his spinal cord to be removed and replaced. James jumped on the offer figuring he couldn’t be much worse off. The surgery went better then the doctor expected and James was back up ad in rehab a month later. With only 4 months to go he pushed himself, working himself to exhaustion and near collapse.

Once he recovered he went back in front of the inquiry and this time walked in on his own. The inquiry was impressed by James and agreed to let him stay. His next request was to be reassigned to what had become his home, the USS Griffin. The request was granted and he was sent back to the Griffin and reinstated to the rank of Sgt. on SD 240406.05.
