The Research and Development Department, under the command of LCdr Tim Trolious, is the primary facility where new technologies undergo extensive research and testing. Consisting of Research and Development and the Council of Engineers, all new simulations and technologies must be approved by by the R&D team, who may be contacted on the Research mailing list.

The Technology Department was created when the Council of Engineers merged with the Research and Development Department in order to better serve UCIP.  Each sub-department serves a different purpose, and is described below.

Research and Development Department
The Research and Development Department provides all technical information and considers all technical submissions.  The Department consists of many groups, which handle different types of technology, including starship design, weapons, defense, and many more.  All new simulations and technologies must be approved by by the R&D team, who can be contacted on the research@ucip.org mailing list.

Council of Engineers
The Council of Engineers is made up of the Chief Engineers of every ship in UCIP. As such, they serve as the contacts for new ideas and information for their individual starships.  Their mission is as follows:

1) The accomplishment of a collective voice of Engineers within UCIP
2) The moderation of all inner-sim technology presented by Sim Engineers to the council. Any new tech reported will be reviewed, and recommended to R&D so technology will remain current and legitimate at the call of R&D.
3) The accomplishment of having Chief Engineers getting non-superficial and quick advice (if needed) on a regular basis about Engineering matters within their sim. All technology proposals will still be presented *directly* to R&D for approval, but non-newtech related matters will go through the Council.
4) Additional help in training of UCIP Engineers. Seminars and mini-sims will be offered by the Council to improve sim quality and inner-sim moral

The Council can be contacted on the coe@ucip.org mailing list.
