UCIP’s functions are divided into operational divisions.

The Star Trek Operations Division is a collaborative universe based around an extension of the canon Star Trek TNG timeline. Set approximately 70 years after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis, the SIMs within this division act as a collective group – each interacting with others.

For SIMs not wishing to participate in the collaborative universe, the Independent Simming Division allows each SIM to exist in its own universe/timeline, affording the SIM leader and the crew free reign to develop their own stories without affecting others. ISD also allows for multiple genres, including Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica-based games.

The operational divisions are supported by the Services Division, which provides the support functions such as the UCIP Academy, which provides training and skill development for simmers, as well as the Database development team who work tirelessly to maintain and develop the UCIP servers, mailing lists and the Database.
