Star Trek: Online Project Leader Named

In our mission to have UCIP be a significant part of the new STO universe, we began plans for a UCIP Fleet within the game, since the launch date was announced at the end of last year.

We have had some considerable time to consider who we’d like to run the in-game fleet, and many ideas were presented, but in the end, it was decided to have the position be a dedicated position – rather than linked to a pre-existing one within UCIP. (So being President doesn’t mean I get to lead the UCIP fleet, as an example.) Suzanna and I felt that this was the best way to proceed with making things fairer in the long term.

So, having reviewed potential players who have got MMO Guild Leader experience from various other MMO’s out there, and who would have the time to dedicate to such a position, Suzanna and I decided to ask Commodore Sean Archer to head up the STO Fleet. I am delighted to announce that Sean has agreed to head up the STO project. :)

The STO Project will be a sub-group of the existing Communities Department, but will be semi-autonomous in its operational remit. Sean will be at liberty to appoint his own team of Guild Officers, and will not be bound to appoint people who have existing UCIP Staff roles and grant them high titles within the fleet, if such things are available.

During the Beta test, we will not be actually doing the UCIP Fleet concept, since all evidence seems to suggest that once the Beta finishes, all characters and fleets will be deleted before STO actually goes live. So, at this stage, Sean will be forming a list of potential people who would be interested in being part of a UCIP guild, as well as forming his ‘command staff’.

I should stress to those who aren’t MMO experienced that being part of a fleet/guild does not *mean* that you have to do everything together or share tech/money with the guild. It is simply a group of players who choose to play the game together and wear a tag that says . The idea is that it’ll be easier to form groups to play difficult missions together, as well as Player Vs Player groups (PvP). To whose who are versed in World of Warcraft, EvE or any other MMO, will know that Guilds are perhaps the only true method of co-operative gameplay for larger objectives. It also allows for a larger group of experienced players to help coach those who do not have as much experience, as a team.

If you are interested in joining this group, please send an email to stonline@ucip.org.

Regards,

Frankie
President, UCIP
