STS-135: The Final Space Shuttle Flight

spacestore_2163_2270508

At 11:26am on Friday 8 July, Atlantis will become the last Space Shuttle to lift-off, on the final mission of this historical spaceframe.

Critical to the success of each mission is teamwork – which is exactly the same for UCIP SIMs.

To celebrate 30 years of the Space Shuttle Orbiter program, UCIP will be running a competition for the duration of the Atlantis’ final voyage. The simmer who logs the most joint logs during the mission (from lift-off to wheels stop on the runway, as determined by NASA), will receive a 1/400 scale model of the original test orbiter, the Enterprise, named in honour of Star Trek.

Logs must be at least two standard pages long and be written by two people to qualify.

Best of luck, and Godspeed to the crew of the Atlantis!

Jazza (President)

UCIP Experience:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Commander-in-Chief
  • Division Commander, Star Trek Operations (twice)
  • Division Commander, Services & Administration
  • Deputy Division Commander, Star Trek Operations (twice)
  • Fleet Commander, Beta Fleet
  • Deputy Fleet Commander, Beta Fleet
  • CO, Starbase Versailles
  • Professor, UCIP Academy
  • Director, Personnel & Logistics

Real World Experience:

  • President & Chairman of the board of a charity (>$1M budget)
  • Appointing and evaluating the performance of the chief executive officer
  • Establishing strategic direction and priorities
  • Monitoring performance and evaluating strategic results
  • Defining key relationships between the organisation and it’s stakeholders and other key individuals and organisations
  • Company director
  • Product Development Manager for a global service providerDevelopment, project management and reporting of campaigns and strategies, churn minimisation

Goals and Objectives for UCIP: UCIP has experienced a period of stability over the past two years, with a lot of work going into developing our platform to support future growth and enhancement.

Over the past year, we’ve deployed our new brand, a new website, have reinvigorated the Trek universe and begun to build our support departments (Members, Marketing) to ensure that we continue to evolve. We have implemented a new governance structure to ensure that UCIP leadership is representative of the members.

For the next year, my goal is to:

  • Ensure the new application platform is integrated (website, Academy, member database) and launched
  • Improve our growth strategy
  • Improve our member retention
  • Expand into other genres to ensure we capture more members
  • Improve communication with existing members

Jacob Gardner (Vice President)

UCIP Experience: Currently in UCIP I have held, Vice President for the last year, I have been the CinC, Division Commander, Database Admin, Department Chair, Commanding Officer, and Executive Officer.

Real World Experience: In the real world I manage a 650+ student residence facility in New York State.  I supervise one professional staff member and 30 para-professional staff members. I am responsible for the general welfare of all the people in my building.

I also, hold a masters degree in education. I believe that these experiences have taught me critical thinking which will help me in the role as Vice President.

Goals and Objectives for UCIP: My goals for UCIP are simple.  I wish to see the organization continue to grow and change in regards to the changing demands put on it.  I feel that this is one of the areas were UCIP needs help.  I believe that my experience helping Jazza implement the constitutional change, as well as my desire for change make me a good candidate for this position.

Donald Davis (Secretary)

UCIP Experience: I’ve learned a lot about administrative management and record keeping within UCIP as well as information storage and retrieval. Most of the work that I’ve done in UCIP in the last seven years could be considered secretarial work, ranging from performing database tasks to maintaining areas of the UCIP web space.

Real World Experience: Having worked in a management position within a fast food company plus two pharmaceutical companies, I know the importance of paper trails and keeping accurate records. Within the pharmaceutical, there is a saying “If it’s not documented, it didn’t occur.” This basically means that if there’s no document to back up the claim, then it’s like it never even happened. This attitude has also taught me that accurate record keeping
needs to have an equally efficient retrieval method, this way all relevant information can be accessed easily when needed.

Goals and Objectives for UCIP: My primary goal as UCIP Secretary is to organize any and all organizational level material and make it easily and readily available to the membership at large. My secondary goal is to perform to the best of my ability in tasks assigned to me by the president and in providing support for the board of trustees.

Aza (Board of Trustees)

UCIP Experience: I’ve been a SIMMer of UCIP since 2007 (starting as an Ensign in Operations on the San Frontieres SIM) since then I’ve been on multiple SIMs and are still on multiple SIMs. This is last year I’ve taken up posts within Fleet and Agency along with being a Deputy DivCom for ISD and then becoming the DivCom. I was the Deputy Beta Fleet Commander and now the Beta Fleet Commander.

Real World Experience: In the real world I really haven’t had any relevant experience in a sense of advising at something of this scale. I’ve been working at an aquatic district where I supervise lifeguard and swim instructors so in a sense that shows managing skills and some advising goes along with that.

Goals and Objectives for UCIP: I would love to see some new blood coming into UCIP. I know I haven’t been around as long as some of you but it just seems that SIMMers just migrate between SIMs and no new SIMMers are coming in and bring in new and exciting ideas. I would also like to see a large based TrekOps plot like the second Dominion war happen again (I came in at the tail end of that plot and enjoyed every minuet of it). And I also want to see the average SIMMer get more involved with the organization like coming to the public town meetings and asking questions or even suggesting things.

Cirrus (Board of Trustees)

UCIP Experience: I have been with UCIP for what is now my ninth year. I have been in the posts of Fleet Commander, Deputy Commandant and Dean of the Academy, and Commanding and Executive Officer of Numerous Sims within the org,as well as a strong simmer on many of the wonderful sims within the org for both TrekOps and ISD.

Real World Experience: I am a 22 year old Technical Support Engineer from the South of England. I am familiar with Advisory and Consultancy work within this role. I also serve on my Snooker Club Commitee to assist with decisions in regards to our Club in general.

Goals and Objectives for UCIP: My Objective as a member of the Board of Trustees is a simple one, to serve UCIP. I wish to help where I can like i have always tried to in my nine year membership of UCIP. I want to bring a solid voice to the table to help guide the organisation toward to better and more prosperous future in any way possible. As that is what we all want in the end, a wonderful simming environment. It is why we all joined UCIP in the first place, and why I want to assist in keeping it that way for years to come.

Czarr Rom (Board of Trustees)

UCIP Experience: Lets see, joined in 97′  Simmed on a bunch of ships and a colony, played with many existing and former players. Ran R&D for 2 years, have been an Academy instructor for ?a year? now, am advanced courses Dean (nominated, not requested).

I’ve seen how UCIP can be and how it shouldn’t. I’m also apolitical and care nothing for pleasing any individuals, my loyalties lay only with that which has always been there. UCIP

Real World Experience: 28, military service as a tank commander, worked in finance and with executives. Love Trek. Am awesome.

Goals and Objectives for UCIP: I remember a time when UCIP was The largest simming group on the web. I remember when UCIP was in the top 5 search results for trek games. I remember when I organized a census of players and it numbered in the hundreds.

But that is just the “what was”. What Will Be is more than that. New technology, new tools, new ways to have fun.

UCIP and I have been together for 15 years. That’s a long time and we owe each other. I’m here to make sure we both deliver.

Jaeger (Board of Trustees)

UCIP Experience: I’ve been a member of UCIP for many years, I actually forget how long now. Early years I spent in the now closed Firehawk Section 31 SIM.

After a bit of a break I came back active on the USS Vindicator with a new character that is now the Chief Medical Officer.

Also on the USS Vindicator in the last year I took on the position of Executive Officer (another new character) when it became obvious that we had to fill in the role as soon as possible.

Last year I joined the Trek Agencies initiative as one of the first members, filling the role of the Starfleet Intelligence Director to provide an additional level of experience to the SIMs and individual simmers for the larger UCIP universe.

Real World Experience: In the real world I have not held any management type positions but I have worked in the technology industry for the last 6 years and have had to deal with highly demanding customers in corporate, government and military areas within a sometimes stressful environment.

Goals and Objectives for UCIP: I’d like to see the organization expand and continue with the earlier initiatives of creating a larger world feel for the simmers of Trek and as much as can be done for the individual sims of ISD. Continued improvement to the systems we use (site, wiki, db) which are already in progress but there is always something else to do. And improving communication between the levels of UCIP, individual sims and simmers alike.

Stormy (Board of Trustees)

[No bio received]

Tamara Akasy (Board of Trustees)

UCIP Experience: XO of Starbase Zetari, Chief Commandant of the Academy, current CO of USS Cortez.

Relevant experience in real world: More than 10 years of roleplaying, IRL and on various online places, was moderator and game master and administrator on a lot of places. Was part of the board of an association IRL for three years.

Real World Experience: Try to make the org grow again, to make us known around the web, and to ensure that everyone continues to have fun simming with us.
