Copyright and Data Retention

The UCIP Copyright and Data Retention Act ensures that once a contribution is made to the organisation, UCIP is able to continue to use the contribution in perpetuity. It also places an onus on UCIP to acknowledge original work and preserve it for future use, even if UCIP decides to cease using it.

1. Ownership
  1. By transmitting the works in a manner specified in s2, the original author unconditionally grants UCIP rights to use the intellectual property in perpetuity, in accordance with all conditions specified in this policy.
  2. The rights of the original author of works shall be upheld to the extent of acknowledgement of the works in perpetuity by UCIP.
  3. Works shall be defined as:
    1. Graphics;
    2. Media;
    3. Banners;
    4. Simulation names and concepts;
    5. Creative works used within a Simulation including but not limited to plots, story arcs, characters, technology.
2. Effect

The substance of s1 shall become effective upon transmission of the works to any UCIP resource, such as uploading to a UCIP server, submission to a UCIP mailing list or other such electronic transmission to or via a UCIP asset.

3. Limitations
  1. This policy relates to original works developed by members of UCIP, as defined in the UCIP Constitution. It does not apply to works created by others.
  2. The use of existing Copyright works by others outside of UCIP, such as those of media companies who hold rights to genre’s used by UCIP is excluded from this policy.
  3. 4. Right of Acknowledgement

The rights of the original author of works shall be upheld to the extent of acknowledgement of the works in perpetuity by UCIP.

5. Warrant
  1. The original author warrants that they shall have no further claim to request UCIP to cease use of the works.
  2. UCIP warrants that it will:
    1. to an extent reasonably possible, preserve the works for the general use of members, the organisation and as reference material for the greater public at large;
    2. take all reasonable steps to ensure the works are backed-up and retained for use by others in perpetuity;
    3. that in the event the material is no longer of active use, that it shall archive the information, intact where possible, in a publically accessible manner such that it can be used by the public;
