Promotion Policy

This policy details the minimum requirements for rank promotions of Starfleet officers. A simmer must meet the minimum requirements before they will be considered for a promotion. Promotion times between ranks may seem long to some, but the focus of the USS Chimera is not on climbing the rank ladder; instead it is to create a fun and enjoyable simming environment driven by character development and plot involvement for all to enjoy.

The number of weeks listed for promotion is for active weeks, i.e. a week during which a simmer posted at least one log. Excused weeks are not counted, and unexcused will result in a penalty / negative count. Simmers on Leave (LOA) or Extended Leave (ELOA) are automatically excused for the specified period of time.

When the time for promotion arises, several factors will be taken into consideration which include writing quality (please note that this does not include spelling/grammar as we understand English is not everyone’s first language), initiative, maturity, crew interaction and other factors. If the minimum requirements for a promotion have been met but the command team feels that the simmer still requires more experience, then the command team can delay the promotion.

Promotions are typically conducted at the end of a mission, but may be given at any time at the discretion of the command team. Promotions are not considered effective until dealt with In Character.

For Beta Shift characters, promotion times are doubled. They do not, however, have to ask for an excusal and will not receive a credit deduction if they are absent for a week.
