"What is essential is invisible to the eye... it's only with the heart that you can see rightly."

Biography:

Rangi was born and brought up near the town of Ludlow in England, Earth. She is the only child of Wes and Helene Summers. They took great delight in the child they thought never to have had and her early childhood was extremely happy. The family home was set in wooded countryside, an old house with large gardens. In her imagination the garden was populated with magical things and she spent hours lost in worlds of her own creation. When friends came to play the games were often adventurous. When Rangi was nine years old, her father, then a weapon designer, accepted an eight months long assignment to Valvarez Minor and after some thought, Helene decided to accompany her husband. Rangi was left behind at school. It was the first time that the family had been separated and Rangi was unhappy at first but came, after a while, to enjoy the new life.

When her parents returned, it was holiday season and so the family took an extended holiday to Akaroa New Zealand...the place where her mother’s family had lived. It was an idyllic time and one that Rangi never forgot. Helene Summers died when Rangi was thirteen years old.  She and her father were/are very close. Wes encouraged his daughter’s interest in science which veered towards medicine. He hoped that she might join a medical practice run by an old friend and his son but when Rangi was nineteen, she met a marine Lieutenant, a man her father did not trust.

Rangi chose to disregard the warnings of her parent, thinking that Wes was being over protective but subconsciously was aware that Wes would possibly always find some fault with anyone she became attached to. So she continued the relationship until it became all too clear that her father’s suspicions had been correct. She ended the disastrous relationship and concentrated on her studies but, to her father’s dismay, decided to pursue her chosen career in Starfleet.

Three years later, Rangi arrived on Starbase Aurora, eager to begin 'a new life' only to find that the Marine Lieutenant was also stationed there and more than keen to take up where they had left off. One day in the infirmary, Shane Guzman introduced himself. This was the day that changed Rangi's life. The instant attraction to the young tactical officer soon grew into a deep love for him. Although the feeling was returned, things haven’t always run smoothly for the pair.

Transferred to the USS Chimera SD240308.17 as CMO.

Following the departure of General Bretam, Commander Shane Guzman was given command of the ship and his relationship with the newly appointed XO soon met with disapproval from many. Rangi’s father had suffered from Iverson’s disease and had participated in a research program aimed at finding a cure. After two years, he decided to terminate his participation and let nature take its course. He arranged to meet Rangi when Chimera-B docked at SB Bragg but died there when he suffered a heart attack at the moment of transportation.

The next mission began soon after this event and took them to a mirror universe. Both Rangi and Shane's doubles were killed in the conflict that followed and their son Martin was still aboard Chimera-B when they returned to their own universe. Shortly afterwards Rangi resigned her XO position to give herself more time to care for the child.

Other Notes:

On meeting her for the first time, people sometimes consider Rangi to be very reserved. This is true to a point but once the ice has been broken and an acquaintance begins, Rangi proves to be a loyal and fun loving friend. She is sentimental, sometimes to a fault. She sets high standards and expects others to do the same, she is fair and good natured but can dig her heels in when circumstances demand it.
