Biography:

Rick Rodgers was born to a career Starfleet officer, Lieutenant Commander Richard Rodgers, on Earth’s moon, but moved to his father’s starship three weeks after birth. Since then, he has lived his whole life on starships, not knowing what it’s like to have a home on a planet and/or moon.

Since he can remember, Rick wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and join Starfleet when he came of age. Even though his brother, Trent, was against Starfleet, Rick still looked up to him. Trent helped Rick, or Ricky as his brother calls him, when their parents separated while the younger Rodgers’ brother was still a young child.

The brothers continued to live on their father’s starship, while their mother, Elaine Beckett, moved back to Earth. Rick watched as his brother and parents also grew apart. When Rick was eight, Trent got caught with a bottle of Romulan Ale with a couple of friends. That eventually led to Trent being sent to Earth to live with his mother.

What no one knew was that Rick had a little resentment toward his father for sending his big brother away. Still, Rick kept it in and accepted what had happened. For the next 10 years, Rick studied all aspects of starship operations from helm control to security training and even science. But, it was engineering, his father’s chosen field, which interested Rick the most.

Despite his brother’s objections to Starfleet, and reasons unknown to Rick, Trent eventually joined Starfleet Academy when Rick was 13.

Five years later, Rick followed on Trent’s footsteps and was easily accepted into the academy.

Unlike his brother who just got by because he didn’t seem to care, Rick excelled in his courses, even though Rick felt it strange to live away from a starship. It took him three months before he was able to sleep comfortably.

It was during Rick’s senior year, though, that his world was shaken. When it seemed his parents were going to get back together, an explosion on the ship his father now commanded killed Captain Rodgers along with a couple dozen others. The explosion was deemed a terrorist act by a species that his father was going to reject Confederation membership.

During action against the X'Chi, Deputy Chief Engineer Sean McTaggert was killed in battle. Since Rick was in charge of Beta Shift at the time, he was named acting Chief Engineer.

Medical Information:

Missing one toe on left foot because of a birth defect.

Other Notes:

Rick can seem a little enthusiastic at times, but doesn’t allow it to interfere with his duties. He’s the kind of person that most people seem to like, even though he’s extremely shy around women. His main interests away from work are making extensive holodeck programs, the theater and classic Earth cartoons. He also became quite fond of fishing while at the academy, something one of his classmates got him hooked on.
