Biography:
Pazla was born in the coastal city of Cavari, situated on the coast along the Opal Sea on Betazed. Her mother, a Betazoid journalist, was involved in a whirlwind romance with a Klingon diplomatic aide and had not expected to get pregnant when she had. However, she decided to keep her child which ended her affair with Pazla’s biological father. Soon afterwards, she married a former love and settled down with him in Cavari.
While Pazla’s was growing up, her mother never spoke of her biological father, and only mentioned him when Pazla started asking questions about her physical appearance, which was clearly different from other Betazoid children. Despite her physical difference from her peers, she had a happy childhood and was a gregarious and outspoken child, finding it easy to make friends. She only began experiencing social problems during her early teenage years when her Betazoid friends began developing their telepathic abilities. As a result, Pazla began to feel a distance growing between them as their differences became more apparent. Her parents decided then pull her out of the private school she was attending and sent her to a Federation school with a greater racial mix, which would allow her to experience a variety of cultures and feel less isolated. However, Pazla had already begun to feel resentment towards her Klingon heritage because it was the cause of her difference. This in itself was aggravated by the development of her Klingon temper.
She fit in well at her new school, and learned that she was not alone in her situation through meeting other students with hybrid racial backgrounds. Soon she made new friends and took part in many activities. She trained in mok'bara, was a member of the parrises squares team and played springball. During her last year of school she won the interschool springball tournament. Despite her focus being sport-oriented, Pazla did well enough in her academics and developed an interest in Klingon poetry as she began to explore the culture.
Pazla’s decision to enter Starfleet Academy was spurred by childhood fantasies of serving on a starship, exploring space and the personal feeling that she didn’t really belong on Betazed. Her parents at first were not happy with her decision, but soon relented and supported her decision. Upon completing her entrance exam, she was accepted into the Academy. Pazla chose early on to major in starship tactics and weapons control. Among the other courses she took were flight control, security training, counseling, klingon philosophy and creative writing.
During her time at the Academy, Pazla was a member of the parrises squares team, and was declared the Academy champion during her third year. In her last year at the Academy, she fractured her collar bone when she fell off the ramp during a parrises squares tournament. In her second year, she had a disciplinary hearing for being involved in an illegal bat’leth duel on campus after accepting a challenge from a fellow Klingon cadet. She lost the duel and was hospitalised for two weeks, after which she was suspended for a week; the cadet who challenged her was suspended for a month.
On SD 240706.20 Pazla was presented with the Golden Shield after she intentionally disobeyed the orders of a superior officer and fired on an enemy ship. She did so believing that the Chimera was in danger, and that the officer of the watch had limited tactical knowledge and as a result had put the ship and crew at unnecessary risk. This occured during Pazla's first mission onboard the Chimera and she had expected Captain Guzman to reprimand her, but instead she received a commendation and promotion for her actions.
Medical Information:
Pazla's blood has a magenta colouration.
Other Notes:
Pazla is a very honest person, due to her heritage and how she was raised. Among Betazoid society, where she grew up, dishonesty is considered as a social taboo, while in Klingon culture it is considered dishonourable. Although she can be quite temperamental and moody, she tries hard to maintain balance by not taking out her moods on other people, because she can easily sense how it affects them; sometimes she can come across as blunt and snappish. When she gets this way, she usually tries to explain what's bothering her. She has a tendency for blaming a lot on her Klingon side, and sometimes wonders what it would be like to be a full Betazoid. A lot of this stems from the distance she experienced when her close friends began to develop telepathic abilities during their teenage years.
She is easy-going and informal with her peers, but respects authority and feels uncomfortable by being overly familiar with higher-ranking officers; she has great respect for the chain of command. In sports and games, Pazla can become quite competitive without realising it. Her mixed heritage has also given her a strong sense of tradition, and she has an interest in old Betazoid rituals and traditions, as well as Klingon ones.
