Biography
Thompson was born during a visit with his Grandparents on the farm in the rural city of McHenry, Wyoming. He grew up as a "Starfleet Brat" with two parents with Starfleet career ambitious. His father, Captain Greg Thompson, served as Assistant Engineer on the Potemkin and worked his way to Chief Engineer. His wife, Amy Vogel, was a Science Officer on the Soverign when she transferred to the Potemkin to be Chief Science Officer. They met in the Ship's Lounge and pursued a romantic relationship soon afterward.
Thompson knew he wanted to join Starfleet at a young age but he wasn't sure where he wanted to go. Science seemed too theoretical, with the formulas and ideas having practical applications not truely seized upon by the scientists. Engineering was too impersonal, having essentially a machine carefully regulate a subatomic particle reaction. He had some interest in medicine but not enough to warrant exploring the option fully, in his mind.
However, his father was seriously wounded in a conduit explosion while directing main Engineering and summarily spent several weeks in Sickbay. Thompson visited his father and was very impressed at the caring, compassionate bedside manner of the doctors and nurses there and the innate intelligence, and knowledge of the doctor discharged to his father's care. Thompson opened his mind to the possibility of becoming a doctor.
He spent his final years before Starfleet Academy acting as an Intern for the doctor. In learning for that task, it solidified his enjoyment of medicine and he went to Starfleet Academy, with a strong letter of recommendation from Doctor Thomas Williams, Chief Medical Officer of the Potempkin.
Thompson would be best described by his friends as friendly and knowledgable, though a bit restrainted when it comes to having fun and taking risks. He's moderately tall and has a pleasant, but not necessarily imposing physique. He has a full head of hair, though he keeps it short with a usually neatly shaven face. His interests include 20th century history and the current topics in medicine in Starfleet.
