Background
Born on the outpost of Barolia, near the Romulan neutral zone, Edward Keyes and his brother Jacob were from a very young age fascinated with service in the United Federation of Planets.
Both split in career-choice paths at some time prior to entering Federation service, although it was not of the level that paralyzed the occasional message from one to the other. While Jacob found himself deployed to Starbase Midway as the platoon leader of the Echo Company 3rd Platoon (with a later transfer to Marine Corps Base Syronis in the Triangulum Galaxy), Edward was deployed aboard the USS Griffin as the chief of security.
Decorated by Captain T.J. Fortiscue of the Griffin in 240601, the former chief of security transferred shortly thereafter to the C.S.S. Endeavour, under the command of Captain Shala Natai, after receiving specialized training in the intelligence career track. While arriving aboard the vessel too late to participate in the "Endeavour incident" at the New Stellarton Penal Colony, he did assist during the followup investigation that eventually led the ship into a nebula near the edge of Federation space.
The exact details of this particular incident remain classified, by order of Starfleet Command.
After a 3-month tour of duty aboard the Endeavour, Edward transferred from the United Confederation Fleet to Starfleet, missing the attack that led to the destruction of Starbase Versailles.
Assigned to the USS Resolution as the acting executive officer, a startling change in personality has quickly caused him to make enemies with the crew (leading to his nickname of "Granite"), although the reasons for this are not yet known. Rumors of a recently-ended romantic relationship between himself and the ship's chief engineer, Lieutenant Katherine (Kat) Jenova have begun to surface among the lower ranks of the ship's complement, although this has not been publicly confirmed by either one.
Personal Trivia
Thus far, the only two personal items that have figured prominently in the life of Edward Keyes have been two pictures in his office: a photo of the H.M.S. Resolution, and a painting of the H.M.S. Resolution and H.M.S. Adventure. No explanation has been forthcoming for his unwillingness to customize his personal office or quarters.
On 240604.18 Edward's cousin, Jack Fisk, was the subject of a missing-persons report by his grandparents, later killed in a mysterious explosion that gutted their home on Barolia. Suspicions in the Keyes family have repeatedly circled around a possible connection between Jack and criminal elements in the Federation, but thus far no proof has arisen on this matter.
