Introduction
The purpose of this Handbook is to give a solid grounding of information and links to resources that a CO in Beta Fleet will need.

The Beta Fleet Commander and his/her Deputies make up the Beta Fleet Staff. They work as a team to help the SIMulations within Beta Fleet, and any of them may be called upon to assist a Command Team. While each Deputy has a primary focus within Beta Fleet, the Beta Fleet Commander may choose to have a single Deputy based on the needs of Beta Fleet.
Job Descriptions
Beta Fleet Commander
- Ensures the smooth running of Beta Fleet
- Compiles a monthly Fleet status report which is sent to reports@ucip.org and beta-announce@ucip.org
- Attends or finds a representative for any meetings in which Beta should be represented
- Resolution of disputes pertaining to Beta Operations
- Ensures Beta IRC Channels rules are adhered to online and leads by example
- Owns and maintains all Beta Fleet mailing lists and channels
- Reviews this Handbook every six months and makes updates as necessary to reflect changes to policy/procedures.
- Approves the creation and development of SIMs within Beta Fleet
- Approves the appointment of all Commanding Officers within Beta Fleet
- Approves/Coordinates (with IC Deputy) Fleet Plot ideas
OOC Oriented Deputy
- Promotes Communication between fleet command and SIM command
- Assists in training SIM Command Team members
IC Oriented Deputy
- Promotes use of Beta Wiki
- Promotes use of sb22@ and beta-ic@ educating members of Beta in their use, and seeking out promising individuals to assist in fleshing out the IC environment of Beta Fleet
- Works with Command Teams to coordinate Fleet Plots and Joint SIMs
Commanding, Executive & Second Officer
- Ensures a weekly report is submitted
- Ensures SIM Website is up to date and current
- Ensures UCIP Database Roster is accurate
- Communicates with the Beta Command Team regarding their SIM
- Ensures a quality and fun environment for their SIMmers

Channel Behaviour Expectations
As a member of Beta, you are expected to be professional. If there is a Beta related problem or incident, report it IMMEDIATELY to Beta Command so it can be delt with in the most expedient manner possible. As a member of Beta, please remember that what you do anywhere in UCIP, regardless of whether it is related to your SIM and/or Beta or not, reflects back onto your SIM and/or Beta.
Remember to treat all individuals with respect. If you feel for some reason that you are unable to do this, then please leave the channel until you are in a frame of mind conducive to respectful discussion.
Sometimes discussions in Beta Channels can get a bit rowdy, as we do not have any type of channel 'ratings'. However, if something gets to the point where you are feeling uncomfortable, then feel free to speak up and express yourself.
Beta Command will not tolerate individuals disrespecting other SIMs, Fleets, Divisions, Services Departments or members of UCIP within Beta Channels.
If any Beta member sees another individual in Beta behaving unprofessionally, they are asked to remind that individual of the rules of the channel even if that member of Beta outranks them in the chain of command. Nine times out of Ten, this will correct the problem. Please try to remove arguments about channel behavior and what is or isn't appropriate to other channels. A log of all incidents resulting in removal from the channel or a ban, should be sent to the Beta Command List.
If you have made what you feel is a reasonable request, and it has been ignored, please report it to Beta Command to be dealt with.

- Further ops are optional and are set up at the discretion of the Beta Fleet Commander.
- Please note that Beta Channel Op Levels only apply to Beta run channels. Channels outside of Beta, including SIM Channels, may have different Op Level rules.
