The crew of the Avalon faces problems because of the bad shape of the ship and everything seems lost when they lose their targeting systems. But thanks to the quick action of Ens Fuller who establishes a link with the ship, the Avalon can fire torpedoes against the Proteus and disables the opponent. Realising that lady luck is not on his side, Capt Mason, who is hiding one of the two shuttles that were launched from the Proteus prior the combat, reassures his XO that besides the Nova approaching, he stills has a backup plan. As the Nova arrives to the scene, the Avalon scans the Proteus finding the signature of a romulan mine as the one that was planted on the ship before and that is about to explode as well. As it attempts to get away from the eminent blast, the Avalon is protected by the Nova as it serves as a shielding from the shockwave.
