| ARTICLE I - IRC CHANNEL OPERATIONS |
| Section A: |
The rules of individual simulation channels, department channels, or personal channels of members of UCIP are subject to their respective channel owners and are not covered in this policy. The channels that this behavioral policy covers are:
1. #UCIP (An IC and OOC room for general UCIP discussions and meetings of Staff)
2. #Backroom (An OOC hangout room for all the members of UCIP)
3. #Ten-Forward (UCIP's main IC role-playing lounge) |

| ARTICLE II - IRC CHANNEL OPERATORS |
| Section A: |
OPS Requirements All members, level 3 or above, who can demonstrate the ability to monitor the public UCIP-wide channels with fairness and maturity may apply for Channel Ops status by requesting an application from the CinC or an appointed representative.
Subsection 1. The CinC or his/her representative may grant Half Ops to members who do not meet the level requirements in special circumstances, most notably to ensure op coverage during certain times of the day, provided the member meets all other requirements and has recieved their initial advancement to Level 1.
Subsection 2. The Application process may include an exam based on the IRC-specific section of the UCIP By-laws. It may also include training (Academy or In-Channel) and/or observation/grading in the performance of their duties as a Channel Op to ensure both an understanding of the role and knowledge of both Channel rules and UCIP's Members' Code of Conduct. |
| Section B: |
OPS Obtainment/Loss Procedure Channel Ops is given merely for the purpose of maintaining the smooth and proper functioning of the channels at all times and is in no way a representation of status or importance.
Subsection 1. All new operators will be required to go through a three month trial period of observation at half ops before being promoted to full ops status.
Subsection 2. Founded complaints may result in reduction in ops status for increasing periods of time. The time periods will be based on the severity of the complaint and the number and types of previous founded complaints. For full ops, this means demotion to half ops. For half ops, this means demotion to no ops.
Note: This policy covers all UCIP public channels, currently #backroom and #ten-forward. It does not cover the #ucip business channel.

| ARTICLE III - IRC CHANNEL RULES |
| Section A: |
When enforcing rules, except when otherwise specified, the proper procedure shall be a warning first. If an individual ignores the warning and continues in their behavior the next course of action is to remove them from the channel via a kick, then ultimately a ban if the behavior still continues.
Subsection 1. In the event that a ban is issued a log of the incident must be sent to the channel operator mailing list. (chanops@ucip.org)
Subsection 2. Only the CinC, his/her designee, or the person who set the ban on an individual may remove a ban in a channel unless a ban is miscorrectly entered into the channel and is being corrected.
|
| Section B: |
In rare situations where individuals may join a channel and immediately start abusing, flooding or acting in a way which deliberately and purposefully contradicts the rules in this policy, Ops are permitted to remove the person from the channel by a Kick/Ban immediately and without question. Such situations should be considered highly rare. |
| Section C: |
Excessive swearing is not permitted in any of the official UCIP channels. Excessive swearing is defined as swearing more then three times in a period of ten minutes or offending other members in the channel. |
| Section D: |
Discussions taking place in a channel which can be deemed as being offensive to other members in the channel shall be taken elsewhere when asked by any UCIP member in the channel. Offensive discussions can fall under the category of sexual commentary, sexual innuendo, graphic or violent statements or heated personal arguments which should not be heard out in the channel.
Subsection 1. Failure to comply without question to this request will result in a warning, followed by a kick and a ban from the channel.
Subsection 2. If an operator is not active in the channel to enforce the policy, or is in the channel and not enforcing the request a log of the situation can be sent to the channel operators mailing list (chanops@ucip.org) for review.
- Subparagraph A. If fault is found on the individual for not removing the discussion from the channel a temporary ban from the channel will be issued for a period of one week. Chronic offenders will receive lengthened bans.
|
| Section E: |
When in Role-play channels, OOC comments should be kept to a bare minimum or taken to either private message or a different channel so as not to disturb role-playing. |
| Section F: |
Harassment, insults or other such abuse towards members of UCIP
will not be tolerated and will be subject to disciplinary action by the CINC. Events of harassment in the channel or
in message should be logged and sent to the CinC (cinc@ucip.org) for review. |
| Section G: |
Disagreements over decisions made by channel operators shall be handled in private and not on the public channel. If it is felt that a situation was not handled in the proper way, it should be logged and sent to the operators mailing list. (chanops@ucip.org) |
| Section H: |
This policy is to ensure that an enjoyable atmosphere is maintained in all UCIP channels. While this policy can not outline procedures for every situation, it is expected of both members and Ops that they apply common sense in their actions and conversations at all times. |
| |
| ARTICLE IV - IRC CHANNEL RULES |
| Section A: |
Each time an individual is banned from the channel the time the ban lasts increases. A ban is a ban, in other words being banned for swearing is equal to being banned for sexual harassment. In most cases individuals should cease their actions before a ban is imposed. |
| Section B: |
All bans within the channel must be reported to the channel operator mailing list (chanops@ucip.org) within a few hours of the ban being imposed. |
| Section C: |
The following chart will be used to determine the amount of time an individual is banned. A ban should be affixed to the #BackRoom and #Ten-Forward when put into place.
| Offense | | Time Period |
| 1 | | 24 hours |
| 2 | | 48 hours |
| 3 | | 72 hours |
| 4 | | 1 month |
| 5 | | Subject to Executive Decision of the CinC and DCinC |
|
| Section D: |
Ban evasion will result in a one week time period added to any level of ban which is currently in place. Each evasion will result in an additional week. |
| Section E: |
Depending on the severity of the infraction the CinC may set an appropriate time limit to channel bans as deemed necessary. |
| |
| ARTICLE V - RANKS IN CHANNEL |
| Section A: |
All members wearing ranks shall be considered In Character while in a channel which can be designated as such. |
| Section B: |
Only ranks earned in UCIP are to be allowed in UCIP channels including the #BACKROOM unless the individual is currently involved in a role play scenario within UCIP. |
